    Image Inspired Dare #18

Walked outside, pointed the camera at the clouds, and stumbled across this...
    SAM_1257.jpg

    The Rules:

    1. There are no restrictions as to how the track is created. All sound sources and processing methods are allowed as long as you have the rights to use them (ie. no sampling of copyrighted tracks etc).

    2. The image is only an inspiration, you do not have to use it to generate any sounds (in an application such as Metasynth or Kaleidoscope)

    3. The challenge is open for four weeks. If you're a little late and the thread is still open then please post away or PM me (GaryG); this is a fun challenge and entries are more important than the deadline.

    4. Submissions should be uploaded to a place available for all AO members. Links should be posted in thread dedicated to the given round. Please, do not use hosting with countdown, CAPTCHA and other obstacles.

    5. Winner of contest is chosen by votes cast by AO members.

    6. Winner of contest chooses the image for next contest. Photos, digital artwork, pencil sketches... All acceptable. The image can be hosted at Ambient Online or on a site such as Imgur if you feel a high quality copy is preferable.

    7. Participants are encouraged to discuss their methods for the benefit of the community.

Entries should be submitted by midnight UTC on Tuesday 4 April 2017.

A small request: To save excessive copying and pasting, please post entries in the format:

    artist name - track name
    soundcloud/hearthis/whatever link

    comments or notes.
Hear some of my music at hearthis , Soundcloud, Bandcamp, or just say Ello! Also see H.P. Dronecraft collab with ontol.

I used the free sample pack from Dronny Darko at http://99sounds.org/antigen/ for all sounds. I added some FX, specifically Tantra, sfilter, GrainSpace, and epicVerb. Some automation for volume and panning was added, and the result is what you can hear.

It is available as a high quality (24bit/48kHz) FLAC file for download.

I played a pad sound on FM8 in a microtonal tuning through Kaleidoscope and I used the given picture in Kaleidoscope to manipulate the sound. Then I ra this recording through 3 sends: Verberate, the standard stereo delay that comes with Live and a beat effect in MXXX.

Lots of Audiobulb Ambient and Paul Stretch here - I used a melody I had written a little while ago (entitled Aerial Bliss) and tossed it into Audiobulb Ambient to create the looping melodic texture, then I used a sample from outside the brewery during a windstorm for the noise tracks, which were all run through Audiobulb Ambient and some were stretched with Paul Stretch. Mixed and mastered in Reaper with some EQing to cut the lower frequencies, and you have the above.

    I hope y'all enjoy!

    Tuonela - Passing over

Inspired directly by the image - I took a short section from the ending of another track, dropped it 2.5 tones, stretched it 3 times and overlaid the stretches unevenly. The second was made to fall 6 semitones during its length, the third was reversed and treated with a degree of reverb.

I've been imitated so well I've heard people copy my mistakes -- Jimi Hendrix
