This is quite typical, actually. I can remember reading stories of Brian Eno having to run for his life down the streets of London being chased by groupies, the likes of which had been not seen since the early days of the Beatles. It's what made him go bald.

Honestly, I find the random cam girl spammers less annoying than the artists that go through and "like" every track posted on the site's main timeline, just in hopes of getting follows. Saw someone create an account, post one track, and manage to get a few thousand followers in a matter of hours by liking tens of thousands of tracks at once.

Perhaps limiting likes to one every 3 minutes would slow down the false likes. You would actually have to listen to it to like it.

Makes perfect sense to me. Maybe it would affect page views/traffic or something, make the site look less busy and vibrant (deter pro subscriptions maybe...)

Yeah, it is also a genre specific phenomenon I've noticed. Anything where the artist is trying to get discovered and make it big seems to do the worst of it (dubstep, EDM, hiphop, etc). It also seems more intense if you follow certain artists, sort of the "Oh, you like [BLANK]? Then you'll love me!" method...
