This was one of the reasons I bought a new computer back in 2002. I built it so it would run Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex! I did not even realize how amazing the soundtrack was until I actually played through the game, but it is very very good! It contains some ambient tracks and I highly suggest you give it a listen!

The entire soundtrack is released in the UMX format, and was dynamic! It was also created on a tracker of some kind.

World of Warcraft had some nice regional background/ambient pieces.

Since I played a tauren for 7 years, I grew to love the Thunder Bluff/Mulgore music, but there were many more good ones.

Total Annihilation had nice music -- one of the first to use a real orchestra in a game soundtrack.

Most of Valve's games have great music -- particularly the Half-Life series.

More recently, the Borderlands 2 music was extremely good I thought, with a very sci-fi Western vibe.

This is my favorite musical moment in it though: up until that point in the game, none of the music sounded like this. This starts playing during your first encounter with military/construction robots. It really enhanced the tension and fear.

Osmos had some great music, and was an ambient game, really. Music by Loscil and High Skies and others:

Half-Life 1 had probably the best introduction of any game ever, with some lovely ambient music in the background. I've always loved trains and trams, too.

(I wish whoever took this video wouldn't jump around so much though.)
