  • Request for Field Recordings

    Hi guys,
This is a request for "Field Recordings" from various cities around the world. I'm starting a project I've been planning now for some time and in order for me to move it to the next level, I need people to send me one..or two..audio recordings of their home city / town / village..one recorded during the daytime..and the other recorded late at night. If you can only manage to record one, then that's OK..I'd still appreciate it very much. Every file sent to me will be of great help and another step closer to me to completing this project.

The recordings should be as raw, clean and as clear as possible, but I neither want nor expect anyone to edit or enhance anything before submitting it..just send it on to me "as is".

I'm sorry to say there's no payment in return for your time, but the person who submitted any file that is used on the release will be credited, so if you DO submit something, then please also let me know the name you want to appear in the credit, along with any link you might like to include.

Just to be clear..I'm not looking for tracks here..just one or two standard field recordings / found sounds of the area in which you live..one recorded during the say and the other at night..unedited and as clear a recording as possible. Each file should be between 5 and 10 minutes long.

If you REALLY feel like it, then please feel free to include some audio of you describing the area where you live. This is totally optional and would be a real bonus for me, but I'm primarily interested in getting as many "place" recordings from around the globe as possible..it's the recordings of your area that I really need the most.

If you feel this is something you wouldn't mind doing, then please send me a private message here on the forum and I'll discuss the details with you a little more. This request, just like the project itself, is on-going..so if you're reading this a year from now, then I would still love to hear from you and will still be very much interested in obtaining recordings from you..if possible.

Depending on how successful or not this project ends up being, I might take this project a step further, but for now I'm just focusing on putting this stage of things in place and I guess we'll see what the future holds.

NOTE: Please DO NOT post links to any files or recordings here..send me a private message instead

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I sincerely hope some of you will be able to help me with this.

    All the best..

    Dan (Ambient Mechanics)

      Thanks, Bill..really appreciate it!

Yep..monophonic will be just fine, as I'll be processing all the audio anyway..it just needs to be as clear as possible. Just PM me on here when you have something and we'll take it from there.

Rural here as well. More birdsong in the daytime, more crickets and frogs at night.

You'd think that, wouldn't you, but Bill's right..there's a subtle difference between the two periods.

That said, I'd appreciate even one file from you..be that a day or night recording.

Sitting on my porch and listening is one of my favorite things to do. I probably listen more to the outside than to music.

We do occasionally have Chinooks fly over - they make interesting listening and I do already have some recordings so let me see what I can dig out for you.

Thanks..but p[lease don't go out of your way to capture anything spicific like the Chinooks you mentioned. Trust me, a simple recording of the ambient sounds outside your home would be fine, even if you think it lacks anything of note or interest.

That said, I will obviously appreciate anything you can offer me.

Ambient Mechanics just curious but did you manage to use the field recordings?

Yes..but not in a finished track..still in the works and the project is on hold, pending more input from hopefully others. You're the only person to actually come up with the goods on here to date, though I did manage to get a few good ones from a couple of people elsewhere online, as well as offline..but not nearly enough to actually make the project work as I'd planned.

Fear not, though..it will get done eventually.

I forgot about this project... I did actually capture a few recordings (for my own curiosity mainly) but they were pretty much silent apart from background hiss... I'll have another go if you're interested, maybe get some birds now it's spring (nothing as exotic as aoVIs fauna though... ;))
Latest release: never to be repeated

Thanks, Gary..that would be great if you could.

For the record, I should point out that I did receive files from one other person on here..Debra (ambivibe)..my apologies for not remembering that..I should have, given the amount of fun I had working with the peacocks.

Also, for anyone else who stumbles across this..this project is ONGOING..so please feel free to send me files, regardless of when you read this. Just PM me on here and we can take it from there.
