  • What other types of music do you listen to?

I listen to just about anything other than R&B, though there are even some R&B songs that I like.

I also don't care much for blues or too much jazz, but other than that, it's an open field.

What I find myself listening to more than anything lately is orchestral OSTs. My favorites, of course, are John Williams and James Horner.

I listen to lots of techno and electro. Going from yazoo to dubstep...

Oh, I like death metal too.

    Guess I'm a weird person.

I'm all over the place; loads of prog as a teen, then noisy american bands in the late 80s (husker du, sonic youth, fugazi...) which kind of lead to all the post-rock malarky (slint, godspeed you black emperor etc etc) Listened to plenty of 'IDM' in the 90s (aphex twin, uziq...) Not much jazz, no opera, fair bit of classical (minimalists, avro part...), like 'interesting' guitar music in general (not much metal I'm afraid) so love Talking Heads, REM, B52s... as well as more experimental stuff (nels cline, caspar brotzmann...)

Maybe I'm getting old but haven't heard any chart music I've liked in decades it seems (well Gotyes ok ) but then the early 80s are scientifically proven to be the best time for pop music. Ever. ;)

GaryG, You and I share common musical tastes.

I have a collection of close to 80000 tracks. These do include things I don't listen to: tracks from my ex-wife - tracks my kids listened to as they grew up..oh, and the 50 cd Merzbox set--I'm a musical masochist, but no opera. No offense to opera fans, it just makes me nuts, same as show tunes/musicals. And to be honest, probably several hundred tracks are my own work.

I was the guy in the 80's with the huge box of cassettes in the car. None in cases, just a crate of loose cassettes--most of which I still have.

I listen to everything from Classical to Death, and just about everything in-between, with the exceptions that I mentioned.

I don't even mind some opera, though it has to be the right opera.

There's actually one opera-like track on Vangelis' Direct, and I really like it.

There, my thoughts exactly!!! Now I don't have to write a big long story about it. Which I'll do anyway... ;)

I started off listening to metal in my earliest days...the music changed me (for the better) in ways I couldn't have possibly imagined. I was literally being raised on Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, and Sabbath. Not a bad way to discover the world!

In high school I started branching out and realizing there was other kinds of music out there I enjoyed...rap, acoustic, ambient, folk...and of course my favorite band of all time, Ida.

Nowadays I fill my life with the beautiful sounds of ambient electronic every chance I get...much to my fiance's chagrin sometimes. However, during the holidays she blasts Xmas music nonstop, 24/7. I either slap on the ol' headphones and find a deeper and quieter headspace or it's Deck the Halls every minute of everyday for a whole month!:doh:

A little bit of everything really. Not sure there are too many genres unrepresented in my music collection.

Today I was listening to some 90s drum and bass, yesterday the Human League, the day before Elvis, the day before The Clash, etc.

I'm amazed at the variety of music that people here listen to. We all seem to be very eclectic, which is great.

For a really ambient shock I like to burn toast and listen to the smoke detector, whilst dreaming of fire appliances. Failing that, some King Crimson will suffice. Usually Starless And Bible Black, Red or Discipline. Those albums tend to galvanise me when I am feeling lethargic. They have the same effect on the wife, but with different consequences.

Oh dude, I know EXACTLY what you mean!!! Only that effect comes on when I start blasting some dark ambient in the house...my fiance...let's just say she's old school like that. Headphones on...problem solved! :listening::whiteflag:
