New album: The River and the Railroad

Thanks Uncle's photo immediately gave me that kind of positive feeling and those retro-but-not-so-much sounds and kinds of tracks, all I had to do was sit down and record while looking at it, so a lot of the credit goes to him.
You're right, a lot of sounds that seemed so amazing when they came out now make you smile However, I think that basically all sounds go though the same phases: stunning - I've heard this already - cliche - old - ridiculous and outdated - forgotten - oh, I remember this with a smile - classic. So I think all those sounds are just one step away from becoming the next classic sounds ;-P
As to the last track, it just came out, I guess that's the river... it seemed to work fine with the rest of the album and came from the photo just like the rest, so I guess it makes sense in spite of a few doubts I had

Great work Mac It's a breath of fresh air sometimes to hear an album that has such a positive vibe - it's obvious this was fun to make. I know what you mean about those sounds. Funny how some sounds age better than others - I remember hearing those classical guitar and saxophone emulations when they were really at the cutting edge of technology, and wishing I had enough cash to buy one of those Roland JV series keyboards (except they called them 'workstations' back then). Nowadays the sounds evoke more of a nostalgic smile than a dropped jaw

And I'm glad you didn't completely deprive us of Berlin School - that closing track is a real slow burner :D

By the way, I thought I'd better add the explanation of where the idea came from (text taken from my newsletter):

"The style is that of the 90's Tangerine Dream era of stuff like "Melrose" (but with better music, hopefully, no offense meant to the masters, and for the record, that's an album I love in spite of its objective (lack of) value). So here you'll find those peculiar cheap sounds and structures, although - obviously - it's still my own music and personality, no cloning intended or carried out. It was nice to pay a little tribute to that era that, like it or not, defined a musical period in a certain kind of electronic music. "

A couple of years ago I saw a fantastic photo by my uncle and photography teacher Domenico "Sem" Semeraro (his website is here domenicosemerarofoto.jimdo.com ) and a whole album (Weather Changes) instantly formed in my mind. I recorded it and obtained his permission to use his photo for the cover. After some time, he sent me another photo, and again an album (Fabric) composed itself in my mind, I only had to record it. That's how our ongoing collaboration started, and what you can listen to now is but one of the results. The great picture you can see on the cover immediately generated this album in my head; it was both the mental map and the musical score for it. It’s a work I’m very happy with, a new kind of music for me, and it was a lot of fun to make. Very special thanks to Sem for his fundamental help and contribution (and for coming up with the album’s title)!
