  • Tsim Sha Tsui - (Slightly Detuned Techno - 2013 and 2020 Remixes)

This track was originally from August 2010. It has just had the Seismic makeover treatment. Quite a few synths on here, including a detuned KXOMNI 600patch that sounds plain wrong in isolation. Within this track, the effect is more subtle.

Hopefully it won't keep you awake for too long:giggle:

    Ooh, I love arpeggios!

This has some nice 80's influences. I liked it.

Thanks very much for listening, manducator. Glad you liked it :D

It's funny. I get a lot of comments about 80's influences, but I was much more comfortable with the music of the '70s and '90s.

Reiterating what I said about the track on KVR, I really like the sound of this one. What's so amazing about you is you keep unearthing this music from the year 2010 and making it fresh and new again.

I've got a ton of respect for you. Keep it up my friend.

ahhh 80s influences?...in my opinion you know what it is...that snare. Sometimes I get allergic reactions from listening to 80s snares...but then I hear people have died from from listening to Phil Collins without going into anaphylactic shock first Here it works perfectly well in the overall arrangement from around 1min onward - awesome track! :listening:

Thanks very much for the great comments, S1gns. Glad you liked it. I have 9 more of these tracks to remix, and then I can start on some new music.

I started making these tracks in January 2009. By February 2011, I had completed 58 tracks, and then I took a 4 month break, listening to other artists. Then I started the remix projects. At first, I focused on the arrangements, then I started working on the mixes, and as I started accumulating a collection of useful tools, specifically T-Racks, I was able to polish the sound a little more with each successive remix. There is still a lot of room for improvement, but at least I can say that I am slowly moving forwards. If my broadband doesn't get fixed soon, I'll have no option but to remix another one

Thanks very much for checking this out, phoenstorm. Glad you liked it and even gladder that you mentioned the snare :D

I originally had a much "hissier" snare that ran all the way through this track. When I revisited this, I decided that the original snare, although briefly interesting had to go. I spent over 4 hours on the new snare sound. This is not something I normally do. I will normally start with a preset and just tweak it for 15 minutes or so to get the effect that I need. The snare(s) on here were different. I think I auditioned over 50 different snares for this until I found one that was reasonable. Then I started tweaking the sample, raising the tone, adjusting Q values, adding reverb, EQ, etc. later in the track I started adding the original Cubix snare in the background, and then near the end the microtonic snare kicks in as well. I went through a similar process with the kicks too, although it didn't take anywhere near as long.

Very fun. I like the bell tones in the break and throughout the track.

                    2020 remix is complete:-

The August 2020 edit/remix/master is basically a cosmetic update of the 2013 mix, although I lost a couple of VSTs from the original project after moving everything to a new computer at the end of last year. After some jiggery-pokery I managed to restore things to a workable state. The individual track EQs have been improved, and I made some levelling changes to the original tracks. I have Satin on the master bus in the mix, replacing FerricTDS. For mastering I used T-Racks VC-670, Equal, Quad-Comp, Saturator X and the Stealth Limiter.

                      Hi Tim,

I listened to the old and the new together switching between each one on SoundCloud. It's one good thing about SoundCloud where you can switch between tabs in your browser and pressing play in one disables play in the other.

                      Nice track, by the way

Very subtle differences to my ears. Probably the greatest "improvement" is the percussion, which now stands out more I think.

regarding losing plugins... Do you never bother to "print" tracks once you are happy with them? I do that myself, sometimes, as I was told it didn't matter if a plugin went missing. I've not done it so much lately because once a track is issued on an album I never revisit it to be honest. Ever moving forwards and all that.

Overall, I think the new version sounds a little "cleaner". This was mainly due to levelling and EQ changes I made in the mix. I may have tweaked the reverbs too, now I think about it. I did fiddle around with the percussion. My mastering has improved during the last 7 years. The loudness values from the original master and the new one are very similar, but the earlier version featured TPL values above 0dB. The new master has taken care of these.

I have never bothered printing tracks after producing the original mixes. When I started remixing these, I would more often than not want to tweak some of the actual synth/FX parameters anyway. Fortunately, I have almost finished the tracks originally from 2010, although one of the upcoming remixes needs some serious work on a couple of arpeggiated sequences. Printing wouldn't have helped me in this instance. I guess I'm saying the same thing as you. I have 5 albums released, and have no plans to work on those tracks again.

Thanks very much for listening, Andy. Glad you liked it

I never really got into Bauhaus in the '70s or '80s'. I think it was probably an "image" thing. I was young, and at that time listening almost exclusively to Prog-Rock and a bit of Metal. There was a lot of the Mods vs. Rockers thing still going on back then. The Punks, New Romantics and Goths came in under the radar, and as far as I was concerned, had no real heritage or history! I only started to pay attention to Bauhaus' music in the last 10 years. I can't decide whether that makes me an old git or not. It probably does.

Thanks very much for listening and commenting, Greg. Glad you liked it

Here is a YouTube clip of one of my favourite bands with Pete Murphy:-

he seems quite comfortable in this company.
