Of all those covers I like submissions by Subdream (the 2nd one, to be specific) and Windspace. Subdream's work has that space feeling in it, and will suit ambient music compilation pretty well. Windspace's work has good combination of picture and font, and is sweet and peaceful.
Most of all other covers look pretty... amateurish, to say the least. Ugly fonts and strange pictures make them look not really pleasant. It's my opinion only ofc, don't take it too seriously.

If you've followed the cover contest thread before this, NONE of the entrants claimed to be "professional designers." They simply gave it their best shot for the spirit of the contest and the compilation.

Opinions are welcome on ambient online, but calling out others work as "ugly" and "strange" isn't really necessary. Please use wisdom when stating your opinions.

Most of all other covers look pretty... amateurish May I remind you that all the contributions on here was specifically made for the next Ambient Online Compilation Volume:2. I don't see any contributions made by yourself. Are you acting out of mere jealousy I wonder? At least a lot of the wonderful people on here had made the effort. Also think of it like someone taking a minutes thought for someone else when buying them a gift or card, well that's what the cover art contributions are on here, its exactly the same kind of minutes thought made for the thread. The members here have taken that precious moment of their time and designed a cover art. It don't have to be the best in the world. There will always be someone who will like the ugly fonts as you most eloquently put it and they can use my work or others if they desire to for their projects also. Its a community of friendly people from all corners of the globe coming together and sharing their art works alike very much so like their dreams/idea's ect. That's what makes a strong foundation for a community such as this one. Negative thoughts/remarks from the haters ect are not appreciated and its exactly that kind of feedback that make this community also a stronger one to.

Maybe next time you ever feel to give negative feedback, try and give a moments thought for the newcomers. They certainly don't want to read such stuff, especially such stuff looking down on their contributions to. AND we want them to come back here to. They may feel like their art works are not good enough or their music is not good enough. So we HELP them along with positive vibrations that reach the very core of themselves. We help build their confidences so they not only feel good about their contributions/music ect, but CRUCIALLY we help them to feel better about themselves to. We certainly don't want to be scaring them off now do we.

This is kinda half of the deal to me. This is just judging cover art for the cover art, not for the whole of the album.
I like to have my cover arts represent the album's music. For this, I wouldn't know since the album will have to be released with an album artwork for which we're voting.

So this is kind of a half vote for me. Some cover arts here fit beautifully with certain 'feelings' of music, so to say, while some don't (and might fit better with other 'feelings').

That aside though, just looking at the cover arts for what they are, rather than what it'd have to represent, I kind of voted for almostly everyone xD some arts are just beautiful.

And I don't believe in something like a 'universal cover art' that would fit any music. So really, maybe the cover art that eventually gets chosen is beautiful on its own, but another one would have been better to represent the album's content.

It could simply be a problem of interpretation/language.

I voted earlier today, and I know that my decision was quite difficult, as every contributor's submissions contained elements which I found to be desirable/interesting. In fact, my session timed out before I could vote, so I had to log in again to make my choice.

I can also appreciate that imagery perceived to be "pleasant" might not quite be everybody's cup of tea. Some dark ambient music certainly lends itself to more unsettling associations. Ugliness or strangeness are not necessarily "negative" qualities.

I think everybody sees this from a different viewpoint/perspective and possibly with an individual focus. Distortion is inevitable, and nobody (except S1gns) knows which direction the music submitted for the compilation is tending towards, which is why I submitted a polka.

Ugliness maybe, strangeness no. But from a general point of view one has to think of the whole picture rather than ones own. One has to have a particular consideration for everybody to. Like for the whole spectrum of peoples different views/feelings ect. Not everyone is going to think the same. If it may not appear negative to one in particular don't necessarily mean that another in particular is going to feel exactly the same. Ugliness may be consciously perceived as a negative comment. Especially to a newcomer to the forum. Its not going to be very refreshing for them to see their work called ugly by another member. We as human beings are programmed to believe instantly what particular words mean and what comes to mind when someone is calling ones work ugly. Like saying he/she is ugly, that can be thought of as being repulsive or offensive towards their own physical appearance.

So we the members have to keep the scales balanced even if we don't agree with something. Its giving a thought to someone else. Its not rocket science to know the definition of ugliness. One only has to google it and BAM!! there you are. Words and meanings all falling into the same circle as the very word ugly. I always find its way more appropriate to use another word rather that wanting to use a particular word. But as I said above its giving a thought to the whole spectrum of peoples views/feelings to.

If this thread was in the What The Hell Do You Look Like thread and a woman posted a picture in of herself and someone said you look ugly, she would immediately or most probably feel offended right!! But if someone called me ugly I wouldn't be bothered anyway because I know I am lol. But in general terms the word ugly is not a nice word, well to me personally anyway. But words can be interpreted in so many different ways, depending on what topics or conversations they are being used in. I certainly wouldn't use the word ugly to comment someone else's work in here. I would look for another word to use so I give a thought of consideration.

So for the newcomers to this forum I give a thought also. I may feel like something is not offensive or negative, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will feel the same to. And its the newcomers really that is the essence to Ambient Online. Am sure if someone joined here and saw their works being called ugly by another member, especially if they don't feel confident about their work to, they are not going to like it are they. So they won't want to be reminded of it to. So for that matter we choose carefully our words and keep the scales balanced.

I guess I should have stopped writing my post before «ugly and strange» part, but I didn't, so let me explain myself.

Did I say «those covers are ugly and strange»? No, I said «ugly fonts» and «strange pictures».
«Ugly fonts» means those fonts feel somewhat wrong in current context. They will probably look good being applied to other images, but they don't match ambient music theme (IMO of course!).
«Strange pictures» means the same thing, but for pictures.

Sorry to everyone offended by my post. It was kind of harsh indeed, but I submitted one of my tracks for my compilation, and I know you will sell it for money. That's why I'm interested in really good cover. It's vital for every music release. It's like all the tracks being represented by one picture.

And, Richy, lack of submissions by me doesn't prove anything. I didn't submit any pictures because I know I'm not really good designer, and my covers would probably suck ass.
