Great article - Neither scene nor heard: a journey through ambient music
I’ve seen a few articles over the past few years detailing the best ambient albums, the state of ambient or the return of ambient, and whilst they’re often very positive for the genre, the artists and every other person involved in making this type of music, I can’t help but feel a bit empt
sorry if it's been shared before, I really enjoyed some of the points made.
I can see how 90's trance would have it's influence on ambient, BT certainly, I'd say Underworld too. The way they makes tracks flow cat get pretty blissful, plus the sound textures on Second Toughest for example. I've always loved their vocals/lyrics, "found poetry" which complements the whole atmosphere, but I think they used vocals with perfection on their Cool Kids of Death remix.
Lots of wonderful music, even if I'd had to stretch my personal definition of ambient to include that all to a list.
Woob's 1194 and especially "On Earth" is huge in the particular vein ASIP grows from, and the likes of Oöphoi, Greg Haines and Thom Brennan could certainly deserve a mention in any list discussing modern ambient, so let's add them here now
Check out the Portals while there, I found great new music reading them.
