  • I remember that the only classic i loved was "Gymnopedies" by Eric Satie.
The oldest records i own in this genre are "Voices" by Roger Eno and "Plight and Premonition"/"Flux and Mutability" by David Sylvien and Holger Czukay.

      • The first "ambient" piece I got was Zeit by Tangerine Dream. I had already bought Rubycon and was working backwards. That was in the 70s (if I remember correctly Cyclone had just been released). Zeit remains my favourite TD album. I didn't get the Brian Eno stuff until the 80s.

In the early 70's I was driving a taxi in London. One day, I see this weird-looking gent crossing the road and before I knew it, I had run into him.

                  The rest is history.
Wow man you're on a roll this evening!

In other news, evidently we now have a celebrity among us... aoVI, the Columbus of ambient!

All hail the new king. :

Think how different history would have been if you had run him over instead....

Yeah, we'd be stuck with all those ambient bands from Berlin.

I only heard A Rainbow... for the first time a few years back, annoyed with myself for not seeking him out earlier. Also recognised some of from the Hitchhikers... tv series.
Latest release: never to be repeated

                            • For me, it's all Bowie's fault. In the early 80's I got heavily into early 70s prog and glam rock. Ziggy Stardust led me to Low, which prompted me to ask "Who's this Brian Eno cat?" Music for Airports soon joined my collection, and cemented my fondness for that minimalist approach. This led to my discovering the Hearts of Space program, which I spent many a night falling asleep to. I'll admit I'm not tremendously conversant with names or works in the ambient field, I hope learning from this community will broaden my horizons.

                              • I can't really pin it down but probably went off at a tangent from Pink Floyd and started to listen to things like Dream Fish Ambient Dub and William Orbit. Tangerine Dream floated in and out of my awareness a few times. Philip Glass always interested me. I have never listened to Eno :eek:I had to look him up. Sorry
                                It's all an illusion.
