Thank you for all of your support on this. I knew this theme might trigger a few people...

But as aoVI stated, the goal was not to promote a religious ideology or spiritual doctrine, but to provide an inspirational framework as a contextual backdrop for your music. Nothing more.

AO is a place where people of many different cultures and spiritual beliefs come together. We will always be a non-religious group and open to everyone.

Thanks for your understanding and I look forward to hearing what all of you come up with!

      Cheers,
      -S1gns

I have been inactive on the forum and compilations for too long. Time to get back into it.
At the end of last year I finished a project that had the theme of the life cycle of trees and forests from germination to raising the young to family networks to tree communities to death to decay to rebirth and the impact it all has on the environment and life on Earth. No religious connections for me, just nature at work.

          Count me in.

          Cheers,
          Graham

then why did you still present it in the way you did?

i know it wasn't meant to gate-keep only a certain kind of participant. the openness of this community is one of its strengths.

that said, the way the theme was presented was strictly in religious/supernatural terms, and in a way that presented those as facts. this i find thoroughly uninspirational, and even a bit alienating, due to my personal history with the destructive forces of religion.

maybe you could consider the diversity of members here, and present the theme in a more neutral, more diverse, and more open-ended way? something along the lines of aoVI's suggestions in comment #26 of this thread. there are certainly ways in which the theme can be approached in a metaphorical sense, or even with a view of processes observable in nature, but the way in which it was presented didn't invite us to do so.

I would absolutely love to be a part of this. I have something that I think would fit quite nicely with this theme.

As you probably know, a part of Notre-Dame died last night. My track was made early this morning, quickly, in the moment of emotion. I will let the ashes and sounds rest a little time before to downloading [edit : uploading] my tribute for this compilation, thinking I will be respectful of the theme.

                      *calls timeout*

Alright boys...I've got to step in here.

ablaut You and I can continue this conversation in private. Check your PMs. Sonic Bodhi I got this one...thank you for your ideas and you can now go back to Sonic Bodhi-ing and doing what you do.

To everyone else: we've heard a few members out, but let's all agree that AO is a positive environment where constructive counter-ideas can be heard. However, we like to keep these conversations civil and respectful. Let's get back to making music!

                      Cheers and thanks for understanding,

I've had an idea for this track since S1gns posted the call for submissions, and today I finally got some time to work on it. It all came together remarkably quickly - arranged, recorded, mixed and submitted in under two hours. Woo hoo!

Looking forward to listening to all submissions.
