I'd love to render at 1080p but rendering over 16000 frames at 720p in Chaotica takes days already so that is why I don't create stuff at 1080p.

I suppose I could try upscaling to 1080p in my video editor but I suspect that the quality wouldn't be very good.

Regarding packages like Adobe After Effects, I find the cost very prohibitive to be honest. Most of my spare cash goes on music stuff and there isn't enough left for video stuff. I guess I am not that serious about video at the moment and Sony Movie Studio was cheap enough and has enough functionality for my needs, for now

    cheers

Right...don't do it, you won't be happy with the results.

          I think I agree

Better to have a nicer quality lower res movie than a higher res movie that doesn't live up to expectations...

          • I suppose one more link to my latest fractal video wouldn't do any harm:-

            cheers, and thanks,

            • Great sounds and animation, andy. Love the combination of form and chaos in the fractal. Is the rotation done in Chaotica or Movie Studio?

The pulsing colours near the end works very well. Done with palette animation, I imagine?

              • Hiya Tony,

Thanks for watching the video! Much appreciated

I did the rotation within Chaotica. I know I can rotate in Movie Studio (I do that with my synkrotron logo) but it doesn't work too well with animations because if you don't zoom in enough, you see the edges of the video, even if you have applied transparency. So, yeah, rotation is always done inside Chaotica.

Regarding the pulsing colours, last time I tried to create beat matched stuff in Chaotica I found it a pain to be honest. So this time I applied the Hitfilm Colour Temperature FX in Movie Studio and automated that instead. Still time consuming, but not too bad because I only had it pulsing on the down beat.

Here is a screenshot for that effect, showing the automation curves:-

As you can see, it only kicks in at the six minutes mark.

Cheers Tony, and thanks again :D

Yeah, upscaling is never a good option. You could try going for 720p, it's also HD, but not as CPU intensive as 1080p.

                    • Gone a bit quiet this one. I must admit that I have not done any video stuff lately...

                      • I continue to make my monthly psychill series with fractals.

I also have Vegas Pro, which I don't use quite as often, although previewing in real-time is better in Vegas Pro. There a ton of effect filters in After Effects, though, which makes it more useful for my purposes.

                          Here's an example:

This was applied over video cam video (720p)

Here is another example using Boris Continuum Kaleidoscope filter:

The learning curve on After Effects is not too steep, although a bit more so than Vegas Pro.

UiI sometimes use Adobe Captivate to capture video of visualization plugins in Winamp or Windows Media Player, and then re-render it in After Effects. Any good screen capture program would probably do, though.

As far as video resolution, I find it a waste of time rendering at any less than 1080p, as YouTube allows several different options for streaming (for those that may not have the bandwidth) and the sound is generally a little better at 1080p than other resolutions. But then I have a six-core AMD processor and 32 gb of memory so rendering times are not really an issue for me- at 1080p, a six or seven minute mp4 video could take as little as 45 minutes.
These videos were great! I love a bunch of others from this thread and related ones I've found on YouTube too like Sonic Bodhi, Space Creep - wow super intense and impressive.

I've been messing around with HitFilm 2017 when I get time. My most recent and most ambient video is "Agreement Governing the Activities of States on the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies."

I still just have the free version of HitlFilm but I'm loving this software.

I wonder, does anyone use programs that automatically synch up the visualizations they produce with the rhythms or pitches in audio? I see that HitFilm has a "sound pack", does anyone have examples of videos you've made with that, or other software where you've let the computer do a chunk of the work (he asks lazily)?

I'm not aware of any, I just synch the finished mastered track up to the visualization audio by sight manually, and remove the visualization audio track... seems to work pretty well that way..

Pretty awesome track, by the way!.. Great experimental stuff!

Waiting for that piece of software. I remember the old winamp audio player. It had a visualization tool that seemed to play back in sync with the music. So it must be possible.
