...my regrets concerning a scheduled release.

So I planned on releasing two tracks - had a concept in mind (therein lies the mistake...) and got to producing...a long time later I have two tracks at my hands that...I just don't like that much. It's not that that was a necessary outcome...I put a lot of time into sounddesign & arrangement, doing all that was a lot of fun and I believe, as far as parts are concerned, I came up with some nifty stuff. It's just that last step - putting it all together - that somehow evades me with this project.

So what do I do? Just let stuff sit for a while? Break the tracks up, use parts - start from scratch?
I actually decided to put a finished version of track 1 aside and wanted to sort of sidestep these problems with track 2, which I put together more swiftly...only to end up in the same spot.

Any thoughts on dealing with such a situation? And of course - I'm looking for ways to salvage this

I've been there! Believe me, the best solution is to move on and create more tracks. Then revisit the first two later on down the line. Maybe something will click with you and you'll figure out how to finish them.

Another solution would be to upload the tracks to AO and let us hear them, and maybe the community at large (as small as we are) can take a "private listen" to what you've got and we could help guide you in some way.

Personally I've never uploaded a track to AO but I know Seismic and Dax IX have both done it!

I can't just let tracks sit, If I do let them sit, they will never be finished. It's kind of a mood thing. Or at state of mind, I need to be in the state of mind I was when I began with the track so I usually sit with a track until it is finished, except for the final polish. Don't really need mindset for that. ;p

So I usually take unfinished tracks and salvage the parts that I really like and use it as a base for another track. Sometimes I even use the complete unfinished piece and combine it with another unfinished piece! The results can be mindblowing!

I've finished every track I started (apart from 8, which I'm currently revisiting). I'm quite prepared to let them lie around on my hard drive for 2-3 years in a semi-complete state, whilst working on other things, but I just don't like leaving these things unresolved.

I have managed to upload a file. I can't remember how I did it  It must be quite straightforward if I managed to figure it out.

i usually let 'em sit around for a while if they don't impress me or if i can't figure out how to mix them. after bit of time i get fresh ideas, new perspectives, or sometimes i just sy " this part sux!" and into the trash it might go. sometimes years go by and then i listen to an old part that i never used and it suddenly fits into something new that i'm working on. for me it's easy enough just to make new part than to fight with something that doesn't fit~ ymmv

I've had instances where I shelved two pieces that separately didn't seem to be going anywhere but that later turned into different sections of the same song. When I put them together almost on a whim one day, suddenly everything fell into place. So, I've been trying to be better at holding onto ideas. For the longest while I had gotten into the habit of just deleting things that didn't seem to be working out.

I had the same thing happen. I was having problems completing a track, and the idea to add one of my other pieces as an intro came to me whilst I was in bed. I got up the next day and spliced them together and it was a perfect fit.
