  • AO One Sample Dare Challenge # 7

Sorry for the delay, but here goes!

This is a clip off some dribbling I did with drums, recorded with one mic. The sample can be downloaded from SoundCloud:

    http://soundcloud.com/utu-lautturi/ambient-online-one-sample-dare

Hope you get inspired! And by the way, if anybody's interested in how I crafted Tickbit (the previous winner), I'm still up for disclosing the formula - although it is a very extensive process (which is why I won't go into it without asking )...But take it up with me, and I will share.

    Rules are:

    1. Additional samples, soundfonts, synths, samplers are NOT permitted (except instruments which will use only given contest sample loaded). Any other processing of contest sample is permitted.

    2. You can use as many copies of original sample as you want, each processed with respect to Rule 1.

    3. Time for submissions is two weeks.

    4. Submissions should be uploaded to place available for all AO members. Links should be posted in thread dedicated to given round.
Please, do not use hosting with countdown, CAPTCHA and other obstacles.

    5. Winner of contest is chosen by votes of AO members.

    6. Winner of contest chooses sample for next contest.

    7. Winner SHOULD disclose the formula for winning track for the benefit of community.

Hmmmm....all percussive sounds. This will be interesting.

I've been pretty busy lately too, and thought I missed out AOC #7. I'm glad to see it's just getting started.

Haha, cheers guys. Thought I would upload something a tad different to the scene...It was this or a recording of my kids farting, burping and laughing their heads off - I'll save the latter for a dark ambient piece ;).

Truly looking forward to the entries! Let the games begin!

                  Enceladus Approach

                  Here's my entry for AO-OSD #7:

                  https://soundcloud.com/windspace/enceladus-approach

                  Instructions:

1st track - Paulstretch in Audacity, extract ~ 5 minute clip, paste into Reaper, add FX - DC1A, Filther, R-Mem.
2nd track - Use same clip from 1st track, paste into Reaper, add FX - DC1A, Filther, MFM2.
3rd track - Process original sample with Audiobulb Ambient, add FX - R-Mem.
4th track - Extract ~ 9 second clip from 1st Paultretched track, copy into Frame 3 in Reaktor, record output and paste into Reaper. Add FX - DC1A, basiQ, Pulse Modulator, R-Mem. Use as part of Intro.
5th track - Process original sample with iDensity, record output, extract short clip, paste into Reaper. Use as part of Intro.
6th track - Using same clip as 4th track, copy into Grainstates in Reaktor, record output and paste into Reaper.
7th track - Reverse 6th track. Offset along time axis relative to 6th track.
8th track - Extract a different short clip from original sample processed in iDensity, paste into Reaper.
9th track - Paste same clip as used in 4th track into Reaper 4 times in succession. Use as part of Intro.

Arrange tracks in a pleasing fashion.
Only dead fish go with the flow.

Two very nice entries so far. I hope to have something submitted by Monday. I was almost finished when Cubase, combined with a faulty memory stick, trashed my project. I've just switched to Protools 11 and I'm still figuring out how to use my favorite plugs with the VE Pro wrapper so I can start over again.

                      This is my entry:
                      https://soundcloud.com/david-maestas-1/afterwords

I just switched to Protools and tried to do this one with only AAX effects. I used Paulstretch at 4x and 8x and layered the results. I duplicated this layer 4 times, and use different combinations of Nomad Factory Magma effects (several layers of Chromazone and Purple Verb), along with a few Fabfilter plugs. I loaded one of the processed tracks, along with the original into Padshop using Vienne Ensemble Pro to create a few of the FX sounds that are layered in with the drone.

Any chance of an extension till later tonight (11pm-ish UK, ~10 hours from now)? Have a track ready, just needs exporting, top/tailing etc.

                          Cheers.
