  • Releasing One-sample-challenge tracks?

I was listening back to the OSC tracks I've created over the last year or so and found that a number of them seem to hang together quite well. Thought that I may rework them a little (just mix and arrangement, would still stick to the original sounds) and possibly bundle them up as an EP (or mini-album!) I'd probably rename them too to make the release consistent and not just a random bundle of tracks.

Obviously I'd give full credit to the original sample providers and channel any profit (pay what you want model) back to AO.

Any thoughts? I realise some (all?) of the samples were provided as public domain so no permission needed but, y'know, nice to ask.

    Thanks.
Latest release: never to be repeated

According to actual rules samples are provided under CC0 license there is no problem to make any use of resulting tracks, including commercial use.

I've thought about this (and been asked by a few) since the inception of the OSC. If we do it, we should probably do it right and make a true comprehensive collection of everyone who wants to be involved.

Also, Windspace absolutely led the charge on the included .pdf in the last AO Vol. 3. I'm not suggesting we do another pdf as elaborate as that one, but some documentation might be nice even if it's certain create process posts ripped straight from the threads themselves along with some context.

My proposition: OSC participant should select one or more best of his OSC submissions for inclusion in OSC Compilation.

I think that original samples should be a part of the compilation, too - how in other way listener will appreciate the maestry of sound transformations?

          Something like:

          1. OSC 1 - Original sample
          2. OSC 1 - Participant 1 - Track title
          3. OSC 1 - Participant 2 - Track title
          etc.

Funny- I was just thinking about the idea of an OSC (although isn't it actually "One Sample Dare"?) compilation.. y'all beat me to the punch ;)

I think a compilation is a cool idea but not really what I meant; I want to repurpose my entries for a standalone release in my name. As I said, would give full credit of course.

I'll have to check with my old AC and see how he feels... actually, that guy was a jerk, screw him. And my cat is a bitch.

But seriously, go nuts if mine is one of them lol...
