Ok, submission period is over... Vote here: http://www.ambientonline.org/forum/s...-Dare-3-Voting -
Okay .. here is my submission:
https://soundcloud.com/tonecarver/the-gentle-tides
I almost did not post this because it ended up being way more melodic than ambient, but in the end I figured it would be better to go for it than hide it away
The image seemed to me to be part of a harbor or some destination from long ago. I imagined warriors or travelers in boats heading there, but not at a great pace .. just letting the ebb and flow of the gentle tides nudge them ever homeward.
I tried to capture that not quite straight and not quite syncopated rhythm of the waves on an ocean. The tracks are various kontakt instruments (hang drum, piano, flute, strings, some bells and metals) processed with various reverbs and underscored with some beachy/ocean sounds.Leave a comment:

Coastal erosion is never a quiet process…

Made for ambientonline.org’s Image Inspired Dare #3
See http://www.ambientonline.org/forum/s...nspired-Dare-3
This is an old work in progress, resurrected for the occasion.
Original track: Noises made by an old 78 player were ‘improvised on’ using ambient v.03 sofware. The result was triple-tracked, one track being reversed. A section was stretched and further mangled and added as a separate track.
For this challenge, two deep drones of varying intensity were added.Leave a comment:

I was too late for the Sample Dare #30, but I think I can just make the Image Dare.
https://soundcloud.com/graham-mcarthur/relic
This one was reasonably complex process.
Started with a F major 7 sub 2 cord to provide the initial sound.
In Logic; Spreader filter: 60% intesencity, .731 Hz Spread, 222 sam delay, 30% mix
Delay Designer: low cut off 1200Hz, Slope 6 db, resonate 5%, delay 1500 DMS, swing50%, Feedback -13.5 db
Silver Reverb: low cut 220 Hz, High 100 Hz, Mod phase 40, mix intensity 50%
Paul Stretch x3
This was then chopped up into several sections to make 7 tracks of various lengths.
Some where made into loops, others where Paul Stretch further. A couple where compressed.
I also use several other filters and sounds, but did't write them down at the time, too many and too much going on to remember.
It was fun to do.Leave a comment:

I live by the sea too and I find myself kind of transported by features like this, especially if it's winter. I guess it's some brooding 60s/70s, brit, cold war sci fi vibe I'm tapping, think Pertwees Who, Doomwatch, Quatermass, Z fo Zachariah, crumbling sea forts etc etc...
https://soundcloud.com/lighthugger/final-watch
I had hoped to make something more melodic but ran out of time (I'm not very productive when it gets hot...) so it's just three tracks:
An old sample from my long gone Sci Pro-One (a classic droney PWM sound) stretched then filtered (cascaded filtering at that to give it 'complexity') and some Ubermod chorusing to smooth it out.
Then a simple deep sine wave with more Ubermod to make it less monotonous, hopefully rubbing against the first track to up the unease.
Then the first track stretched until it was pretty much noise then filtered, delayed, 'verbed... I guess this was my obvious 'sea' sound.Leave a comment:

My entry is called Pavlopetri, after the oldest known submerged city on Earth. read about it here.
I've gone for an oceanic vibe, with plenty of depth and movement; I was trying to capture the sense of humanity's structures being slowly returned to the depths.

Crocodile
seems to be I'm the 1st here
https://soundcloud.com/ahornberg/crocodile
I recorded a bellish and cracling track using u-he Bazille.
Then I ran this track through 6 instances of 2CAudio Kaleidoscope and added a delay to each track.
On the master track I used a compressor, a reverb and a tape emulation.
So enjoy! :listening:Last edited by Ahornberg; 07-15-2015, 05:35 PM.Leave a comment:

Image Inspired Dare #3
Greetings challengers,
I headed up my local Antrim Coast for inspiration. It's an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, location of much Game of Thrones outdoor filming (indeed GoT geeks, I pass the Wall and Castle Black on the way to work every day) and provides a very handy supply of bucolic vistas and intimate nature pics for album covers. On this occasion I went for something a little more mysterious: one of a series of disintegrating man-made structures slowly being reclaimed by the sea.
