  • Image Inspired Dare #4

Slightly later than advertised, here's the image for the latest challenge! Dozens of gold balloons escaping into the sky.

    Rules:

    1. There are no restrictions as to how the track is created. All sound sources and processing methods are allowed as long as you have the rights to use them (ie. no sampling of copyrighted tracks, use only samples and recordings you've created or have the rights to etc).

    2. The image is only an inspiration, you do not have to use it to generate any sounds (in an application such as Metasynth)

    3. Time for submissions is 16 days, counted to midnight, UTC, of 16th day.

    4. Submissions should be uploaded to place available for all AO members. Links should be posted in thread dedicated to given round. Please, do not use hosting with countdown, CAPTCHA and other obstacles.

    5. Winner of contest is chosen by votes cast by AO members.

    6. Winner of contest chooses the image for next contest. Photos, digital artwork, pencil sketches... All acceptable. The image can be hosted at Ambient Online or on a site such as Imgur if you feel a high quality copy is preferable.

Good luck! This Dare ends in 16 days .. Friday, August 21, 2015.

      Image Inspired Dare #4

First pure drone, ambient piece I have created all done on an IPhone 5s and iPad 3. This was made by putting the picture of yellow balloons into a generative iOS app called Spinphony and then played with the sounds, chords, notes in realtime. I then recorded it into,an app called Audioshare, placed it into Secret Base Design's Midimorphosis (does audio to midi) and sent the track to two Animoog Patches and one Alchemy patch. I recorded the results live into Cubasis, messing with the X/Y Pad in Animoog and the remix pad in Alchemy in realtime. Finally, I then played one more Animoog patch live into Cubasis via Audiobus and reversed it. I then EQ'd in Cubasis, mastered in Master Record, and then slowed it down 40% in Audiostretch.

And The Winds Took Them All Over

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frippertronics made using a stereo feedback delay (left side 5.0 seconds, right side 3.8 seconds).
I used a string-pad Diva-preset called "PAD Frost Patterns" and no other additional effects except the delay.
It's just an improvisation driven by playing through this delay.
And of course, it's microtonal: http://xenharmonic.wikispaces.com/33ed4

Wow, very cool! I was just checking out your Soundcloud and this popped up. Pretty amazing what you are doing with one pad. Also I like how we are building a story with our song titles!

Here is my submission. It is very quiet and is best listened to with headphones - and with the volume low. Playing it loud just destroys it.

This is a very simple piece with just two tracks. Both played on the same synth (Logic synth number 2) with the logic Silver Reverb filter, Spreader Delay filter and Delay Design filter.
Each of the tracks were improvised, recorded in one take and unedited. The only difference in the two tracks was in the settings of the filters, panning, and length (track 1 is 1 minute shorter).

The clear blue sky and the light balloons rising high in the sky gave me a feeling of lightness and a quiet almost complete silence of delicate movement.

              Away.

I guess the image made me think of 'things' drifting away (mr literal here...) May revisit as I like the idea but maybe a subtler treatment would have worked better.

Simplest submission yet, just a Rapture sound driven by a generative sequencer in Reaktor then processed by NuSoftings AnythingMod and a little tapeverb from Ubermod. EQed and levelled with Eareckons Analog87 CM-Comp and CM-Equa (Computer Music freebies, well worth a purchase).

Amazing track Maharg, very cool that they were both one take and unedited.
