    Thanks all for the votes and for the opportunity to challenge you;)

    This is a recording of our three dogs having breakfast this morning. In the background there is a refrigerator making a little noise. I upped the volume by 10db.


    The idea of the contest is to create ambient track using only one sample.

    Rules are:

    1. Additional samples, soundfonts, synths, samplers are NOT permitted (except instruments which will use only given contest sample loaded). Any other processing of contest sample is permitted.

    2. You can use as many copies of original sample as you want, each processed with respect to Rule 1.

    3. Time for submissions is 16 days, counted to midnight, UTC, of 16th day.

    4. Submissions should be uploaded to place available for all AO members. Links should be posted in thread dedicated to given round. Please, do not use hosting with countdown, CAPTCHA and other obstacles.

    5. Sample is provided under CC0 (public domain) license.

    6. Winner of contest is chosen by votes of AO members.

    7. Winner of contest chooses sample for next contest.

    8. Participants SHOULD disclose the formula for winning track for the benefit of community.

      Was online when this came through so thought i'd have a go! wanted it to have a dark cold lost feel..

      track 1- sample slowed down to 96bpm in live 8 played through fx chain: electronica 1 > izotope ddly plugin (high pitched -6 st, low pitched +6 st)> vocal choir > six string guitar ambience

      track 2- same as track 1 but vocal choir amplified and ddly both high and low pitched +12 st

      track 3- the ambient tones at 2.30 - 2.45 in track 2 paulstretched to fit the piece and faded in and out

      all recorded in audacity, volume decreased at ~20 seconds, mixed down n normalized.

      i highly recommend the ddly delay it's free at the moment

        More usage of the Dogs and Breakfast tags would make Soundcloud a better place imho.

            I worked in Reason. I loaded the complete sample 3 times and did different time-stretch and pitch-shift using Reasons stretching algo.
            two of the samples were ring-modulated with each other. the result and the third sample ran throug several delays and reverbs.
            I used Thor's filters to make the wind-melody.

              track 1 - took around 4 seconds of sample just past 2 minute mark, used chime delay in audacity and repeated 27x

              track 2 - original sample and track 1 run through fscape bleach module, then run through resolator and ampv in lmms

              final mix - sheppi - deep and wide and mhorse - terry's house

                Synth: tcStretch.
                Effects: +spiralstrech, AstralisFX, AUM Reverb 2, AutoStretcher,
                ckPitchshifter, GRM Evolution, ORB7000, sp3ctr3, ValhallaRoom, VSpectShift.

                Layer 1: Denoised and desilenced sample repeated, followed by original sample reversed,
                routed through FX chain of sp3ctr3, VSpectShift, GRM Evolution, ckPitchshifter, ValhallaRoom.
                Layer 2: Original sample reversed and stretched to 10 minutes, routed through +spiralstrech,
                AstralisFX and AUM Reverb 2.
                Layer 3: Denoised and desilenced sample played by tcStretch, routed through ckPitchshifter and ORB7000.
                Layer 4: Original sample reversed, repeated and routed through FX chain of ckPitchshifter, AutoStretcher and ValhallaRoom.
                Master channel: SlickHDR, A1StereoControl, PSP MasterComp, PSP Xenon.
                Mixed and rendered in Reaper.

                  Here's mine, usual weapon of choice Caustic 3. created some shots to create a drum kit though that was lightly used. Chopped out 7 samples, much downtuning and heavy use of reverb and delay to get cavernlike thundery rumbles. Ultra short clip looped with inverted lo pass filter with light sine wave cutoff filter forms the backbone. More fun to do than I thought it would be after listening to the sample for the first time!

                    Hi. Here's my submission, a bit different from others that I've done.
                    track 1: trunkated all silence from the track, then changed the tempo and then the pitch both by 95% of the original running it through a delay.
                    track 2: ran track one through the crazy ivan plug in using a max delay preset and pitch shifted it down by one octive.
                    track 3 stretched track 1 by a factor of 2 with a resolution of 5 to blur the sound and created a soundscape out of the noisier parts, reversing some sections.
                    track 4: mixed tracks 2 and three and added smart electroniques ambience.
                    track 5: ran track 4 through a panning plugin, then pitch shifted it down by 2 octives, mixing it in with track 4 at the 1.5 minute mark.

                        The sample was 'improvised' on twice, once using The Mangle and once using ambient v.3

                        One minute intro is from the mangled version, double tracked (always sounds nicer), the rest is the live ambient improv, also double tracked.

                          Here's my piece: Unmanned Outpost.

                          Track 1: The opening sound. Took one of the short segments with the refrigerator compressor fan noise. In Audacity, repeated it once. Ran it through Ambient_v0.3. No additional fx.
                          Track 2: Pad sound. Played in the first section. In Audacity, Paul Stretched a section of the sample a small amount. Put that in Iris 2. Fx: Logic's Space Designer reverb and EQ.
                          Track 3: Pad sound. Played in the first section. Duplicated the Iris 2 instance. Modified the filtering and ADSR.
                          Track 4: High fast clicking sound through out. Took a section of the sample and put it in Ambient_v0.3. Fx: EQ.
                          Track 5: Clanging sound - through out. Took a section of the sample where the tag on a dog's collar was hitting the side of its dish, and put it in Ambient_v0.3. No fx.
                          Track 6: Played in the first section - twice. Kind of buzzing background noise in the first section. Took another section of the sample and ran it through Ambient_v0.3. Fx: Valhalla Room.
                          Track 7: Played in first and middle sections. Same sample as Track 6, with different Ambient_v0.3 settings. Fx: Ambience reverb, Pancake2, Logic EQ.
                          Track 8: Space sounds in the middle section. Section of sample run through Ambient_v0.3. Fx: EQ.
                          Track 9: Same segment as in Track 8. Started it 26 seconds later. Fx: Eventide Utrachannel, Logic Echo.
                          Track 10: Higher pad in the last section. Took the segment used in Track 1. Played it in Iris2. Fx: Logic Space Designer reverb.
                          Track 11: Lower pad played in first and last sections. Used same segment as in Track 10. Played it in Iris2. Fx: Logic Space Designer reverb and EQ.
                          Track 12: Drone note and machine sound played in the middle section. Same segment as Tracks 10 and 11 played in Iris2. Fx: Logic's EQ, Platinum Reverb, Space Designer reverb.
                          DAW - Logic Pro. Used Izotope Ozone 6 for a quick clean-up/master.
