    ONE SAMPLE DARE #40

I have had a little delay [appropriate for an ambient musician] in getting this posted. My apologies.
Unable to find my field recorder threw me into a panic but I found it at 3.30am this morning
This is an unedited recording of road works. I think it will be fun to play around with. All the best.

I went for a more minimal approach for this one so I hope you guys like it.
track 1: ran the whole sample through a delay
track 2: ran crazy ivan on track 1
3: pitch shifted track 2 down by 2 octives, copied it, reversed the copy, panned each copy in opposite directions and mixed them together then added smart electroniques ambience.
        4. time stretched track 3 by a factor of 10 with a resolution of 5 then pitch shifted the track up by 3.5 octives.
        5: mixed tracks 3 and 4 together.

          Museo Atlantico

Sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor at the underwater contemporary art museum "Museo Atlantico" in Lanzarotte/Spain inspired me this time.

          So how was it done:

I took some small loops (less than 1 ms) and made a bellish instrument in Reason's sampler.
Then I made several sequencer loops for this "Glockenspiel".
I took a part of the sample (just 2 seconds) and cut it rhythmically and made several loops out of it.
          I took another part (just 4 seconds) and time-stretched it 200 times. I pitch-shifted a copy up 4 semitones.

So have a great acoustic underwater trip :listening:

            My attempt...

Usual, much maligned paulstretch used on eight snippets of the original sample.

            Lots of Tantra, again.

            Some Saturn and Guitar Rig.

A single sample was provided from which all sounds were to be created. I used the DUBTurbo4 Samploid2 to isolate a section that I liked when played with various effect settings in the sampler. Four tracks were improvised, the tracks were then normalized to the length of the original sample, and finally mixed down with minimal pan settings for the 4 tracks.

                AO OSD 40

The complete sample was “improvised on” using a demo copy of The Mangle – this retains a lot of the raw sound of the sample.

This mangled track was then triple-tracked, with delay and reverb being added to each separately.

The mangled sample was also “improvised” on using ambient v.3, and the result was laid as the 4th track. Parts of this were copied and treated using reverb, Paulstretch, delay etc to provide an introduction, drone layer and ending.

I have given up on trying to embed tracks. Doesn't work for me.

I wanted a simple and minimal composition for this one.
The final is only two tracks.
                    Track 1
                    - Selected second half of the sample and ran it through an echo filter, then slowed down 50% and reverb added
                    - Selected a couple of seconds from this and slowed it down 50% and made a loop
                    - decreased bass by 5 DB, increased treble by 6.5 DB
                    - Mix this together with added echo and reverb. Track length 8 minutes 50 seconds
                    Track 2
                    - Track one slowed down to 15 minutes 50 seconds.
Final mix has both tracks starting together with a long fade in. Track 1 has a long fade out beginning at approx 6 minutes.

track 1: sample run thru the mangle
track 2: sample run thru crazyivan and ambience v1 in live but it crashed so i quickly recorded a minute in audacity while it was still playing then paulstretched to 3 minutes
track 3: switched to cecilia5 played the sample thru delaymod
track 4: cecilia5, played sample thru chordmaker took an ambient bit paulstretched x2.5 and reversed the end to fit (and repeat the louder pad from 2:00-2:30)
track 5: pulled track 4 into cecilia5 ran thru multibandharmonizer adjusted the filter live so the frequency gets higher over the track

levels adjusted and recorded in audacity. mixed down, moderate leveling and normalized.

                            - First, in Audacity, I applied Noise Reduction to the sample. Then created four samples using various amounts of Paul Stretch, Tempo and Pitch.
                            - One of the samples was also run through Ambient_v3
                            - The four samples were then used to make 11 tracks in Logic.
                            - 1 - Haunting sounds - Isotope Iris2 - Channel EQ
                            - 2 & 3 - Audio with ValhallaRoom - one panned left and the other right.
                            - 4 - Audio with Channel EQ, SpectralGate, PtVerb, Tape Deloay, Eventide Ultrachannel, and PanCake2. The Tape Delay Head Mode was automated to jump from Clean to Diffuse and then back after a second in each loop.
                            - 5 - Izotope Iris - Ambence - ValhallaRoom - Logic's Tape Delay
                            - 6 - Audio with Logic's Space Designer
                            - 7 - Same sample as 6 - Space Designer and Compressor
                            - 8 - Iris 2 - Distant sonar type sound - Channel EQ - PanCake2
                            - 9 - Audio with Compressor
                            - 10 - Cricket type noise - Compressor - Channel EQ - PtVerb - Space Designer - Audio Damage Fuzz Plus3
                            - 11 - Opening and closing sound - audio with UltraChannel - ValhallaShimmer - Channel EQ
