  • One Sample Dare #41

    Apologies for the delay.

I should also apologise for the highly unoriginal sample, which is a recording of me emptying the dishwasher.

I honestly couldn't think of anything else to do.

As this is the first time I have ever had to submit a sample, I hope that I have done it correctly...

    cheers

        Thanks :D

I know it shouldn't really matter about the sample, as long as there is some sound to work with, but I was kinda nervous about this haha!

Very cool indeed. Nice, dark, slow and intense. Definitely set a high standard with this one.

Here's my effort (there may be two...)

The sample was "improvised" on using a demo copy of The Mangle. The result was multi-tracked, with each being treated separately with varying degrees of delay, reverb and pitch alteration. The ending was enhanced and several drones created from small samples taken from the results.

                  And Mine:-

I went right over the top with this, for sure, although you can't really tell from listening to it.

I created 16 separate tracks from the original sample.

From those crops I created another 26 new samples by whizzing them through Paul Stretch.

I then dragged each and every one of those samples into Sonar.

I placed my main effects (reverb, delay, Tantra x2, Guitar Rig x2 and Saturn).

I arranged all of the samples as best I could. Each sample ranged from a few seconds to around ten minutes.

Lots of sends and just a touch of automation....................

                      haha! Thanks :D

I think I still prefer the feeling of space you get with Sevenism's and your tracks though.

And I think I'm over using Tantra and Saturn because, even though I thought I'd not used them so much this time, you have still picked up on the "train" like sound I'm making.

On top of that I realise that Paul Stretch tends to add lots of white noise to the stretched sample and that also adds to the train like sound.

All part of the learning process though, and I am learning so much more about using busses and placement of effects, as well as finding out more about what those effects can do. I always enjoy this challenge

I've found using the tonality and harmonics settings in Paulstretch can eliminate a lot of that white noise.

Right... I've not yet explored all of the options within Paulstretch yet. Some, but not all. I should really sit down one day, with a couple of different types of sample, and see what those options do to a sound.

Thanks for pointing that out :D

I like that the first sentence in this thread is "Apologies for the delay".

                              Irony isn't lost on me.
