As long as the sample is the only input used. Any sampler or audio file manipulation tool is possible with that stipulation.

          Here is my entry:

          http://soundcloud.com/bobbotov/reboiler-remix

It was made with the synths I co-developed with Boris Kovalev: Ambitron, psyGEN and psyBOX (all granular synths) with the addition of Camel Space and Valhala Shimmer reverb. It was mixed in Sonar 7. I first loaded the source .wav file in psyBOX and created about a dozen variations of the sample. I then reloaded those into psyGEN and Ambitron to further manipulate the sound. A simple process that provides some interesting results.

I'm impressed. It is quality submission.

Here is my entry. I'm just getting started and this is the first piece I've made public - criticism and comments are welcome. The only synths I used were Padshop and the built in sampler in Studio One. I used Valhalla Room, Valhalla Shimmer, and a few Nomad Factory Magma effects. This was fun, and a great learning experience for me.

You have used ONLY reboiler sample in Padshop and Studio One sampler - no external patches were involved?

No external samples were used. I didn't even use Paul Stretch. I used PadShop to create some of the effects, and then bounced the sounds to wav files and loaded them into SampleOne to time stretch them. The rain sounds (not as good as I wanted them) were created with PadShop from a single click I found in the sample. I used two layers of the rain sound, each playing staggered notes, and then reversed each channel and layered them together. I used a resonator to amplify harmonics to create the tonal elements, and then used Valhalla Shimmer and recorded the tails. I loaded the recorded tails (one for each note) into SamplerOne. I can provide the StudioOne project files if needed.

This was the first time I used PadShop and SamplerOne, other than playing presets. This was a learning project for me - that's why I limited myself to a small set of tools.

I purchased psyGEN while I was working on this. It is amazing, especially for the price. I decided to stick with PadShop for this one, but will definitely use it on the next project.

Won't be able to participate this time, but I'm following for sure. Great ideas and extremely interesting to hear about your techniques. Respect.

Was hoping to spend more time on this over Easter but it ain't going to happen so putting up the result of a couple of hours doodling. Not sure if it's even ambient... No mastering at all so you may need to turn it up a little.

Just pulled bits of the sample apart in Reaper.
Woozy drone is the background ambience slowed down a daft amount (.05 or something where 1 is normal) and compressed.
Rhythm bit is just a loop from the sample going through ReaFFT to give it an interesting tone.
Bass throbs are the rhythm pitched down with eq and P&M Clarisonic making it throb.
Hits are fragments of the sample through valhallaroom.
Scratchy bit is just a segment of the sample through (deep breath) DiversionFX CMs granulator effect (automated) followed by Pianoverb to give it that resonant verby flavour then some RP-Delay to give it stereo movement etc.

                          Simple.
Latest release: never to be repeated

I don't know what the rules are about multiple entries, but I created another entry just to see what I could do. This one isn't a contest entry, but this seems like the logical place to post it.

This was done by layering multiple copies (14) of the original sample in Ableton Live. Each layer went through U-he's Uhbik-G granular processor. I also used the Uhbik-P Phaser on a few of them. The sound next went into Ableton's resonator, with each track tuned to different notes / octaves, and Valhalla Shimer was used on the pad parts. The tracks were all exported from Live and loaded into Studio One, with one of the tracks loaded into SamplerOne. The rest was just mixing. I mixed this with headphones, so it may be off a little.

                            Comments are welcomed and appreciated.

This was absolutely FANTASTIC dmaestas!!! Truth be told, I have the boiler sample downloaded to my harddrive, listened to it, but have been so busy with getting everything ready for my own release I haven't had time to participate in this contest! That being said, you took this sample above and beyond where I could have even DREAMED of taking it!!!

So well done. Deserves lots and lots of kudos!!! Very excellent work indeed.

                              Cheers!!!!!!!
