  • piano improv from a while ago

I started recording some piano ideas... here are a few I like... some "ambientish" some totally not. All of them are here: http://www.youtube.com/user/301johei/videos

Of these four - I thought they showed a bit of variety - 3 are total improv in the sense of they are either first run through on the video - or 2nd or 3rd - brand new ideas still taking shape. However, the 3rd video down is one I've been playing around with since the late 90's. I don't think I captured a very fluid version of it - but it'll do.

    These are awesome.

You know I was doing the same thing last night...as I was learning how to use Ableton Live. I just opened up a piano and started jamming. If any of my jams sounded half as good as yours I'd be set. All you really need is to record this to midi, extend the notes out to like 5-10 seconds each...add reverb and delay, instant ambient! :D

Oh and the best part about this post...which I figured out. Start playing the first video, then 5 seconds later play the 2nd one at the same time, and the third, and finally the fourth until they are all playing simultaneously! :hypnotized:

    Now that's ambient. ;)

Thanks for listening! There's a couple of quieter - closer to ambient pieces at the youtube link. You layering the videos is hilarious! :-)
