  • reworking of Casta Diva from Bellini's "Norma" - UPDATED

reworking of casta diva from Bellini's Norma - this is a first draft, there are some artefacts the causes of which I don't really understand and a few aesthetic changes needed to increase the drama - both in the music and in the video. But, comments are welcome

here's an updated version - I'm quite pleased with this, although it will be nice to look at it in a month's time when the images are unseared from my visual cortex
I wish there was a way to add an "UPDATED" to the thread title

thanks - Technically it was made convolving a couple of versions of Casta Diva with some clapping from the end of one of the clips. Callas is only there as the 'visual' goddess because she is / was such a 'star', she doesn't contribute any sound at all. I use a lot of shots of her where she isn't singing to reinforce that fetishising. Also there used to be a great little show on UK TV called Bansai - you could bet on various stupid contests - one of which o was in part about how long it took before a pop singer actually started to sing. I always loved that strange uncomfortable way some singers tried to fill in the bits of the song where they aren't really doing anything but are still the focus out front and was thinking of that when I made this piece. Callas really puts on a show, continually draws the eye, very much the Diva.

I was a big fan of Banzai. And Bert Kwouk.

I only saw a few episodes - I thought it was hilarious - but in Australia it played the occasional night at 3am or thereabouts, just as a filler every so often without a regular timeslot, so I only saw a few.
