  • Setting of The Hollow Sun - a Stephen Howell tribute track

After a busy spring music season for my acoustic stuff I was working on a new set of Halloween tracks when during a break I was getting caught up on my forum reading and discovered that on May 30th Stephen Howell of Hollow Sun had passed away. If you are not familiar with Hollow Sun's instruments I urge you to check them out. Some really great stuff for Ambient and my goto set of tools for a lot of things. http://www.hollowsun.com/

I was privileged to compose several demos for various Hollow Sun VST's over the years and also my first electronic music CD was briefly released on Hollow Sun Records until Stephan decided it was best to retain his focus on making quality music software at affordable prices.

So after reading of his passing my brain switched off the track I was working on and I literally just hit a wall. I knew what it was trying to tell me. Here is a short tribute track using nothing but Hollow Sun instruments. This was kept as minimal as possible in keeping with my own typical style but everything you hear is from a Hollow Sun instrument/Sample Library.

Farewell Stephen - May you now be sampling the sounds of where ever you are

That's a wonderful piece and a very nice tribute. You also got me to check out Hollow Sun instruments again. The demos sound great…I particularly like Shangri La and Altaeriion. Tempts me greatly to take advantage of the cross grade discount happening now at NI.

I listened to several more of your songs on Soundcloud and like what I heard a lot!

The Swimming in the Speres demo track for Altaerion is one of my. I use Shangri La quite a bit as well. So glad you enjoyed the tribute track as well. And thanks for the SC listen. I need to get my pro account back as I had it full so half of what I have up there can't be heard right now

For quirky tones and noises Hollow Sun is really hard to beat. Love the Radiophonica Library for instance. So many others. And I loved the fact that Stephan could take damn near anything that made noise and turn into a workable instrument.
