Glow Worm

[Organic Patterns]

Glow Worm is inspired by a BBC documentary I watched yesterday. Glow Worms lives in caves, in complete darkness. To make up for their missing visibility they have developed a glowing tail, which attracts insects. To catch these insects they lower a string of slime from their mouth, which these insects become trapped in.

When I was younger, I used to visit a pub out in the countryside with friends. We'd use public transport to get there, or if we were lucky, somebody would give us a ride. We often didn't leave the pub until after the last bus had gone, so we faced the daunting challenge of an 8-mile walk home. Along the route, there was a 2 mile grass embankment, and in the summer for a few weeks, we would often see thousands of these beetles, (Lampyris noctiluca) lighting up the night. I suppose they are still around now, but I don't make many of these late-night excursions lately. The British Glow worm is a larger insect than the cave-dwellering Arachnocampa found in Australia and New Zealand.

Nice track, with a cave-like atmosphere, helped by that reverb, and some "squidgy" sounds, which should surely alert the unsuspecting listener to the presence of slime in the immediate proximity.

Thank you :-) Must have been a cool sight with those beetles. I live in an apartment in Copenhagen near the center, so there's not too many insects around, except for some moths, whom I'm not a big fan of :eek:
