  • Ethereal Material, My First Ambient Album

    Hey everyone,

I have recently constructed my first ambient album. In the past I have stuck to mostly harsh noise but recently I went after exactly the opposite sort of sound and technique to construct as 8 hour long box set sized album I call Ethereal Material.

Since it is m first major foray into composing longform ambient music landscapes I'm really curious to know what you all think of it. It is a concept work made from electromagnetic (EM) emissions from our solar system and beyond. Each track is named after the celestial body from which the EM samples used originated.

Ethereal Material is designed primarily for use as a sleep aid but also inteded for focusing at work, studying, meditating, relaxation, or creating a deep space atmosphere wherever you may be.

If you have a chance to listen to some or all of it please let me know what you think, I would love to hear any feedback you may have.

I have said it in your intoroduction post, this work of your is truly amazing.
I had the time to listen more carefully to all the tracks, and the type of atmosphere these sounds convey, along with the constant low bubbling rumble is a perfect representation of what I feel is the terse chaos of the universe.
I also listened to some tracks on speakers, by night, at a low but-not-so-low volume, knowing that my neighbors will never be able to understand that it was someone listening to music : D Maybe it even helped them catch some sleep...

Your other loops also tackle my stomach with "just the right frequencies" but, as you say, they're not as complete compositions as Ethereal Material.
    Anyway, keep'em coming : )

Wow! Thanks so much for the high praise. That is the coolest listener review/description of Ethereal Material that I have seen yet. Glad you enjoyed the album

If you are interested in downloading it I have it up for free on my personal website here: www.spikesnell.com/cn

That is where I also have a lot of my noise music that I have worked on in the past too.

Listened to...uh, correction, slept to the entire album night before last (please take that as a compliment!). Got a great night's sleep. I will be listening to this during waking hours. What I did consciously hear was exceptional!

I guess you didn't notice that I had already bought the album on bandcamp : D
Anyway, the link is of course well appreciated. I gave Software Engineering a listen and it's a pretty nice work as well. I especially liked that the songs are short and to the point and that they're not excessively noisy for noise's sake, bvut still create a good sense of atmosphere: I felt it much like a Straight game of Paranoia would play, with The Computer always in control of your life; not in constant peril or brutally enslaved but with the oppression of an eye always fixed on you "guiding" through your life.

This kind of sounds are a perfect opportunity to push a brand of boutique synthesizers built by friends of mine here in Turin (I willl try to plug them many times and wherever I can on these forums in the future : P ). Have a listen to their demos.
