Chernobylite is a substance, discovered in the aftermath of the chernobyl disaster in 1986. During a routine check, the reactor experienced an error, resolving in an attempted emergency shutdown. However this shutdown failed, causing the temperature and power levels to rise, until the water used to cool the reactor had vaporized. This generated a massive amount of pressure(enough to throw the 2000 ton reactor lid into the air:nuts
leading to several explosions damaging the concrete surrounding the core. At this point the core was no longer cooled or protected in any way, and it started to melt due to the rising temperatures. Mixing up with melted concrete, steel and sand, the core took shape of something looking like glassy lava, also known as chernobylite or the elephants foot.
This mixture of melted uranium, concrete, steel and sand is what I have tried to illustrate.
Bonus info:
30 seconds of exposure to the elephants foot: dizziness and fatigue a week later
2 min of exposure: cells will soon start to hemorrhage (bleed)
four minutes: vomiting, diarrhea and fever
300 seconds: 2 days to live
Quite fascinating in fact, though very brutal.
Hope you like it
