  • Massergy - A Novel Sense of Calm [ Relaxed Machinery ]

I'm not sure if this should be here or in "news"...

I'm proud to announce the release of Massergy's new album "A Novel Sense of Calm" on Relaxed Machinery. I'm so proud to be a part of bringing this album out.

You can stream the whole thing on bandcamp - and, of course, buy it if you'd like to support Eric. 100% of all sales on rM go to the artists. We do not keep a thing.

Just read Eric's bio... So, all this was recorded outside? Live? No effects, other that the ones found on the instruments I guess. If so, that's amazing...

Either is fine (since Eric IS a member here), but if you'd like me to move it to news, I'd be happy to! I was going to suggest you post about this anyway.

i'm listening to the album right now. :listening:

True story, when I first started getting on SoundCloud and even before I began showcasing my work, I used to say to myself 'If I can just get to the level of Massergy...I'll be where I want to be.'

The guy is a true pioneer. I mean that in the most sonic way possible. He has taken his craft to such a masterful level in such an intimate and purposeful way...he's really influenced a ton of people, including myself. I mean just listen to my solo material and especially Ascendant, his influence is all over it.

Highly recommended ambient music release. So glad it worked out between your label and him. Here's to more in the future!

        Cheers,

          Eric is awesome!

...and it's true... Chris / S1gns is the guy that wrote me and said you really got to listen to Massergy - would fit rM perfect. He was right.

Synkotron... to tell you the truth. I didn't hear the entire album until about 10 days ago. I'm not sure how he recorded, although now I want to know a lot more. I also didn't realize the emotional background to this album until I read his liner notes. Amazing.

We will be having a premiere in about a week on SomaFM... (I'll advertise here don't worry!) - and Eric will be there to answer questions. :-)

I should probably leave this here, in case anyone new hasn't heard it before. Still to this day, one of the best interviews I've ever done.

Yeah, like you say, real emotion... I've not had a chance to listen to all the album yet (been busy offline today) but I may have to take Mr Black's advice above and just go an buy, so that I can stick it on my ipod... I just get bogged down while I'm on my laptop, jumping around here and there, whereas, once I've shut down for the night, I can relax with my ear buds in. Not an ideal listening situation, but the best I can do without annoying my better half, who would rather listen to a bit of Slipknot...

after listening to this interview ... would be interesting to make some music without a midi sequencer, I mean without a way to correct timing an pitch after recording an instrument ... when working in SuperCollider I do so, just hit the record-button ... interesting, really!

I remember Eric's performance in Haltia. A sublime way to commence the day's proceedings.

Hey guys. Yes, the album was made live entirely outdoors with no studio time. No sequencing, no software, no post-effects and no mastering outside of volume envelopes. If you haven't heard the interview, I'm just out in the woods with nothing but my underwear, an ice-chest and a headlamp. In the winter, I'm bundled up like a mountain climber out there. Working in a natural environment with basic tools has it's down sides but it forces something out of you that may not happen in a studio surrounded by distractions. You actually have time and space to just go into a zone if you please.

Once I accepted that I wasn't going to sound as good as say ASCENDANT it became more comfortable for me to leave behind some of the more standard techniques and tools and just make music. Considering that what I do involves communicating with my brother, it seems more natural to put as few barriers between me and him as possible - if that makes any sense.

Anyway, I'm appreciative and humbled if people take the time to listen. It's quite amazing really.

                          Hi Eric,

I am enjoying your "A Novel Sense Of Calm" album... Not listened to it all yet. I tend to listen later at night which means that I inevitably fall asleep half way through something. Not a reflection of the music I hasten to add... Just plain tiredness at the end of a long day.

                          Cheers
