Here is basically my first ambient track, I didn't have the idea to make an ambient track initially , I only thought that reverbing the hell out of a synth sequence sounded cool.
How I made this particular piece:
On January the 3rd of this year, I bounced a synth sequence to audio. It sort of sounded like someone strumming a guitar in 16th notes, and I wanted to use the audio loop as maybe a base for a more conventional song, with a beat and all that, but got nowhere. So, I slapped on some effects, like delays and reverbs, just to play around with them, effects are always fun and I was getting nowhere trying to write a song after all..
Then I noticed that it sounded really nice (imo:razz
with the wet signal all the way up and the dry all the way down, and I had the idea to make it into an ambient song. So I copypasted the loop for about 100 bars and laid down some hpfilters and lpfilters to play with , FL Studio's default Fruity Reverb, and finally, I threw an audio recorder at the end of the chain and hit record. I started playing the audio loop with a 100% wet reverb and let that play a bit, while I randomly chose filter cutoffs to play with and move with my mouse, eventually I felt like bringing in some of the dry signal, so I turned up the dry signal to taste, and then slowly turned it down then turned up the reverb amount for one big final splash of reverb at the end, then quickly turned that down, and finally, when the tension/energy or whatever felt resolved (to me at least) I stopped the loop , and let the reverb play until it faded out. I feel extremely lucky the recording came out as well as it did, and I hope you guys enjoy my ambient track, I'm probably going to post another one I'm making soon, it's one with a bit more planning put into it, but one I feel is not as nice sounding as this one. Oh well, I'll recapture that feeling!
