  • New EP 'In the Halls of Venus'

    Hi guys
A little over a month ago I released my first mini-album entitlted 'In the Halls of Venus'. The EP consists of seven ambient & Dub techno tracks which flows into a coherent whole. The grand narrative of the EP is that of ascension from the deepest & darkest layers of the mind to the highest most etheral plains of cosmic transcendence. The mini-album ends with the track 'Fading Memory' which looks backs on the emotional outpuring which occured on the rest of the record. It is also my most deliberate attempt at recreating the B.O.C. sound, which has so inspired me over the last five years.
Thematically and structurally I have taken inspiration from the Orb' seminal work 'Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld' which is probrably my all time most listened to record. Nevertheless, the EP is a higly idiosyncratic creation of mine, & I hope you will like it.

I have listened to the music from you guys, and I must say that I am impressed.
I listened to your album aoVI called ' The Reflection of Dreams on Disjointed Memories' and I quite enjoyed the hazy darkness feel which permeated the album. It really reminded me of Brian Eno's 'On Land or ambient 4 album, and it is perfect to listen to, here in the hazy Autumn of Denmark. You also have a track called june 1987, which in the title is related to the last track on Eno's album called Dunwich Beach, autumn 1960, and with these kinds of titles I am always curios to the memories that inspired
          them.
Favorite Track: Lost at Sea, Adrift and Fading - Very B.O.C. ca. Geogaddi very good; warm, yet dark and distant.

I also really liked your tracks James, epecially the track 'the cavern', do you use a lot of reverb on your tracks?

          Thanks again.

On Land was certainly a pivotal album in my development as a listener and am certain that influence flavors much of my work. I honestly had not noticed the titular similarity, but I'd bet that's where it came from, seeded in my mind all these years. June 87 was probably the height of my salad days and was when I really began to develop processes when recording.

BoC also have a way with texture that pleases me to no end. Over the Horizon ranks right up there with Eno's Becalmed in my list of best f-n synth sounds in a song ever.

Definitely Eno has opened so many world for us to explore. My favorite is the Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks with Mr. Lanois, who I had the good fortune to see in Denmark in Spring.
Yes, I also thought of 'over the horizon', however for your track 'Lost at sea, Adrift and Fading' I thought of the track 'Diving Station' and the vision I got when I listened to it on Hawaiian Baby Wodrose seeds. (its the same sonic space attacked from different minds).

                .
Hi, Thank you for checking out my work, much appreciated, and for commenting on it.

Much of work is produced using samples that I record myself, hitting things, stumming strings, recording all things that buzz, humm and generally produce noise !

I then set about transforming them into a sound that is nothing like the original source.
Yes, reverb, lashings of it ! along with delays, distortion, bit crushers, pitch changers, time stretchers and just about any other sonic mangling tool I can get my mitts on !

Hopfully at the end of all this I have something that I can construct a track with, or around. But even if I don't, I've had tremendous fun in the process.

                Cheers.
                James.
