  • Writing a new album heavily inspired by Silent Hill 2.

    Hello all,

Been too long I haven't been to this forum.

For those uninitiated, I was on Compilation #4 under the name The Atlas Ghost. Since then I released 1 album, 2 EPs and worked a movie soundtrack.

I'm in the process of following up my debut album. This one is going to be heavily inspired by the video game Silent Hill 2. I aim to recreate the unsettling atmosphere of the game's soundtrack and make something truly uncomfortable to listen to.

Finished the first track last night and looking for feedback. Any is appreciated. Tell me if you like it. Tell me if you think its crap!

Really cool mate. Love that switch up at the end. Super dark and right up my street

Akira Yamaoka is a major influence of mine as well! I seen the Silent Hill Band play in Detroit a few years ago. It was their metal/rock pieces as opposed to ambient as it was a rock show. It was really cool to see Yamaoka jam out on the guitar and I particularly liked when he played his heavier stuff.

In your track there is a synthy sounding organ sound which is very reminiscent of Silent Hill. Good stuff here! What I like about ambient from video games is that it has a faster pace than a lot of the drone ambient around these days (which dominates a lot of dark ambient).

SoundCloud had me fooled there... I saw that massive change in the dynamics at around 4:28 and I thought it was going to be a major assault on the senses, but it didn't arrive, which suited me to be honest. I realise now that the dynamics increase was all at the low end of the spectrum and it worked really well.

        Nice work
I may not post anything useful, but at least I do it often

The genre of ambient music really brings places alive in video games! Especially during the PS1 era, the graphics could not convey the mood of an environment so good ambient music was very vital. I would say it is less common these days but it is still there. Here is a selection of Silent Hill ambient from Akira Yamaoka:

Although Silent Hill was a major influence of mine, I was primarily influenced by Aubrey Hodge's work on Doom 64 and Quake 64.

As did I, and I am trying to work through it again on a higher difficulty level... Not getting very far
