Worth checking out the Wired Lab if yr ever in rural New South Wales. It's a private farm that occasionally has phonography workshops and the like. They have a bunch of wires setup using the same principle and Alan Lamb was a consultant. I was lucky to get there a few years ago for a workshop with Chris Watson.

*EDIT* Not meaning to rub your noses in it but found a photostream of the Chris Watson workshop. I gather this is one of the times he gathered material for the Geosonics set.
