I love black metal man. Not a big Burzum fan though tbh. Ive listened to all his albums. the black metal ones and ambient ones. They are all very good and have some cool aesthetic to it. Some things though I just didnt like all that much. But its nice to see people appreciate his ambient music. I think its pretty badass. I dont really dislike any of his material. I just kinda...had my way with it, and thats that. Might find myself turning it on again one day.
ya know when i first started my 'band' I was trying to make a black metal project, then soon realized how much equipment I lacked haha. Id like to get into it again one day.

Interesting music, but Varg Vikernes (think that's the correct spelling) is one of those people who is so obnoxious that it's difficult to actually like anything he does without feeling, somehow, morally soiled. My new album "Exeunt Omnes" is available now, here:

But honestly, there's a ton of better black metal AND ambient out there. Why listen to some made by a literal racist murderer?

This is a very complicated discussion....
The classical music has Richard Wagner - a well known reactionary and anti-semite. But his music is widely accepted and had a big influence on modern music (could anyone imagine Darth Vader appearing without his typical theme?), and more or less known celebrities and even the german chancellor are common visitors of the Wagner festivals in Bayreuth. On the other side: playing Wagner is nearly impossible in Israel, and I can understand why.
Is it possible to separate between a musician and his music? Only if he doesn't mix his crude view of the world with his music. That may be possible in ambient (as long as ambient does not use vocals), but when it comes to speech samples, the situation may become less simple...
Right or fascist behaviour is a common problem in the black scene (no, I don't mean R'n'B and Soul...) - some bands or fans just like the fascist aesthetics or like the silly provocation and don't reflect, what they are doing.
E.g. the Wave-Gotic-Treffen in Leipzig (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wave-Gotik-Treffen) has the problem, that some people call it a nazi event. This is not true, most of the bands and the fans are no nazis, but some of them... I never understand, why some people like to wear uniforms that look like SA-uniforms. This is no fun to me!
For those of you who speak german or have a good translator (I checked it: google translate does a fairly good job, at least when translating into english): https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wave-G...htsextremismus
Anyway: I don't know Burzum's ambient pieces, but I am afraid, that I will check them on the weekend... :hmmm:Latest Album (Nov. 2022): The Great Dark Spot (also on Winter-Light)

Personally I find it very difficult, if not impossible, to do that. Wagner doesn't present me with such a moral dilemma because I don't like his music anyway, but there are many examples of music that I don't allow myself to like, because I don't like it's creator (or more accurately it's creator's attitudes or actions)

I just tried to point out, that I have a problem with some artists because of their strange political opinions. Normally I do not care for political opinions, they are a private thing, but for Varg Vikernes his opinios are not private and if someone has such a close relationship to extreme right groups and ideas, I react a bit allergic.
I also wanted to point out, that this problem is not confinded to the black scene (metal, gothic, industrial, dark ambient...) but also affects the "classical" music - as well as other arts, like sculpting (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arno_Breker).
And I wanted to raise the question, how to deal with it (I am afraid, that one will not easily find an answer to it).
I did not judge his music - I must confess, that I don't know it (yet).Latest Album (Nov. 2022): The Great Dark Spot (also on Winter-Light)
