  • Free To Use Music Samples

I have had this idea in mind for a small while now. Of course I have saw this idea elsewhere on other forums but haven't really seen a thread in here representing the same feature.

So I felt maybe I could start a thread were members can upload their music samples/loops ect but only made from instruments only and newcomers/members who are having trouble starting a new project (like a writers block) but with an idea in mind already but are struggling, we all know that terrible feeling. Or they may feel like their work is not good enough but would very much like to upload their work sometime and appear on a Pod Cast (great for building confidence) But just need that gentle push along the way to.

Well members can use the Free To Use Music Samples donated in here at their own pleasure be it for private or commercial use, but give a credit to the inventor of the sample being used to. Also Dropbox is a great option for this feature as that way music samples can be easily reached to n fro, but for others who don't yet feel comfortable about using such stuff or need assistance installing it then ask away, I would be happy to help and by all means feel free to use the uploaded work in here to. This can also serve as a great confidence booster :tu:

I will start this thread with a music sample I did earlier using the Minihost by Tobybear > http://www.tobybear.de/p_minihost.html and a vsti called Silver Orbit by HG Fortune patch 087: Romantix Eightix. It has not had any fx added or been trimmed/normalized either. So its just the raw cut really.

Here is a few more for anyone to use at their own pleasure.

    Enjoy

    Absynth 5 patch Acid Fiddler.wav

Here I have used Absynth 5 in a minihost tweaking the sound via Absynths patch n effect sections
....using mainly the transpose/phaze/surround/rotate option to change the overall sound
    .
    Darkness Theory (vsti).wav
This was done using the DSK Darkness Theory 3.

      This is an EXCELLENT idea!!
      A bloody EXCELLENT idea!!!

And I would like to offer a sample of mine. Not made from a synth. Just recorded using the SoundCloud sampler. It is the sound of a fizzy drink pouring over some ice cubes. A beautiful sound, that is featuring in my upcoming liquid drum n bass track. There is the clinking of the ice against the glass, the crackling of the ice as it warms up, and the fizzing of the drink.

A little touching up, EQing the frequencies, or even outright messing it up.

Free for all to use under the established CC licence. Just don't use it, then turn around and sue me for having used it.

      Cheers,
      Rik

Here I have recorded a pad sound using Absynth 5, then mixed the sound using Fracture to give it that glitchy feel.
....I then added a little eq and compression and normalized it.

        Enjoy

Hey this is neat stuff m8. Just a nice little sample that can be transposed down a touch, some delay added maybe to add a slight confidence, lots of fun things can be produced from this. Also keep us updated on your upcoming liquid drum n bass track.

Thank you for your contribution Rikkisho

            I shall keep you posted.
            Thanks

I do like that glitchy pad sound you made.
Very atmospheric, and very twisted too.

I think this is a cool idea as well, but I also think it's worth mentioning anyone thinking of submitting samples should makes sure they are free to do so. Some of the commercial (the ones you have to buy) VSTs out there don't allow this kind of thing without special permission. I'm thinking of Spectrasonics, who make Omnisphere..but I know there are other companies out there who don't allow the sharing of samples made with their products without you either paying them more or by getting permission beforehand.

Basically, if you aren't sure and don't have either a special license or permission..then just use whatever FREE VSTs to make the samples you're going to share.

Very well said m8. Nicely put :tu:

I have found some cracking free vst sites out there and some of the stuff that can be downloaded free is mind boggling and really fun to play. It really is. Since I have owned Fracture I have been in total glitch heaven :D

But yes you are absolutely right and thank you for pointing that out

Yeah..the last thing we want to see is folks here getting themselves into trouble needlessly. Anyway, the fun is all in the making..and, with a little messing about, it's totally possible to come up with samples of extremely high quality without having to use high-end VSTs. Just choose your sounds carefully and spend a little time planning out what it is you actually want to achieve and the end results will be well worth the effort on your part. :tu:

Probably already known to many, but Freesound.org is an EXCELLENT resource for samples. - pretty much anythin gyou can think of (from synth sounds to machines, field recordings to off-the-wall sounds created entirely inside the computer... Even sounds created from image-to-sound conversion...)

All sounds are free (at least for non-commercial use) and there is a clear CC license applied to each sound - so you know exactly what you can and can't do with it and if you need to give attribution in order to use it.

Of course, I would also encourage any of you who want to share sounds to post them at Freesound and put a link on this thread. - This way both communities can benefit.

There is also a lot more to Freesounds than the sounds themselves: a friendly community there with a lot of knowledge about recording and sound.
There is also the occasional friendly competition posted - for music or sound creation...
