  • Simulated numbers stations transmissions

After numerous experiments I created simulated numbers stations transmissions.
The same english male voice synthesizer (MBROLA voice) was processed twice
to produce female and child voice.

    Male voice version: http://freesound.org/people/Trebblofang/sounds/222624/
    Female voice version: http://freesound.org/people/Trebblofang/sounds/222625/
    Child voice version: http://freesound.org/people/Trebblofang/sounds/222626/

The only thing missing in these records is some kind of opening/closing melody
    like in Lincolnshire Poacher.

    Any ideas/propositions?

Do you have a shortwave transmitter? Broadcast them then sit back and watch the fun as the conspiracy community goes nuts.

Actually broadcasting them somehow and have people record them could be an interesting project.
Latest release: never to be repeated

I rather like that idea. You could broadcast the simulation, then record a receiver which tunes it in. The intro/outro could be the receiver "finding" the numbers station and then eventually tuning away. (I would recommend a receiver with an analog tuner knob for best effect.)

Idea is interesting, but this way I could attract attention of counterintelligence agencies of at least few countries - black helicopters
will start to fly over my house - and I could catch a cold from repetitive waterboarding ;)

I found another way - dedicated "radio tuning" effect VST: http://koney-industrial.blogspot.com...fect-vsti.html

But I still have no idea for opening/closing sound signal. Melody? Short morse code sequence? I'm thinking about sound of music box
(music boxes are creepy, I think) but I found no sample/preset for synths I own.

my earlier reply seems to have disappeared

I can record a midi file of a music box if you send me one - I have quite a few samples of them

also I thought about the theme music - the other original transmissions use a particular style and I was thinking perhaps soething frrom Richard Tauber might work eg

Why not just go with a three note intro and close sound, like what they used to use on the automated time phone service (..the dial-up clock)..kind of bing-bing-bong type of thing. It's simple and effective at the same time..and easy to do with any keyboard/synth.

good one - reminds me of ice cream van music - but fits perfectly

Excellent work! The melody really does round it out. So creepy!

I know I'm jumping into this thread late, but your simulated numbers station sounds quite good. Adding the melody does give it more of a numbers station feel. I was only able to capture a numbers station once. It was in Spanish, so I'm going to assume it came from Cuba, or Miami. I added it to a track I created, I think that was back in December. A shortwave radio plays into my overall sound quite a bit, having a real numbers station to record is a big bonus, in my opinion.
