Well, most of the ten minutes was figuring the routing in Reaper out... ;)

Funnily enough that's what I did last night though just using Reapers internal timestretch. Stretched it till it sounded good then chopped it down from 20+ minutes to around nine (I can make up the extra minute with a reverb tail ;)) Then added some modulated filters to give it some stereo movement. Unfortunately could only figure out how to do this by using energyxt as a vst which promptly crashed... At least Reaper had the good grace not to, it's good like that.

So I either need to really get on top of Reapers routing or find a decent modular host that can run as a vst (Plogue etc). I hear rumours Tracktion may be about to rise from the dead; always a favourite (simple track 'paradigm' with insertable racks that can be a whole network of effects etc).

Actual post: Interesting sound. I use Reaper as a backup for VST-only plugs or ones that eat up CPU (like SSD Platinum) and like it as well.

Joking post: This is an ambient forum. Posts headed "Today's 10-minute Sound" have to be actually 10 minutes long.

Thanks, I know what you mean, I thought of the Forbidden Planet soundtrack on steroids.

Messing with the Wolfram demo (pretty good), simply fed the output of the filter/delay module back into the first manipulator, sent a 'trigger' sound through it and, woosh, had this gem (subjective... ;)) blasting through my phones. Surprised at the depth of the sound and the 'layers' you can pick out.

Probably only considered Ambient if you work in an oil tankers engine room.

I did this in Reaper and it took me a minute to remember how to route a track to another so you can record it's output. In energyXT2 you could just select the output of any plugin in the project as your track input and hit record. Ok, so Reaper has a lot more flexibility (ie. works in a way pros appreciate) but at the expense of usability. energyXT2 could be *so* good for the majority of the work I do if it had some real development time spent on it (multicore, stability etc). Frustrating.
Working...
