  • Hello from Northeast, USA

    Hi,

Darkened Soul here (board nickname and also my projects name). I've been around (project-wise) since 2002 with a few full lengths and a split as well as on some compilations and the Drone Download Project (haven't contributed to that in some time, need to get off my duff (in general) and whip something up for Stephen for DDP). I used to use Acid Pro 4, then moved to Ableton Live (still with it) and also have Studio One V2 as an alternative. I usually manipulate loops and use MIDI sequences, etc...when making my music (or playing on my synth and mangling it so you can't hear how bad I play ;-)

I have a secondary project I've been trying to get further off the ground called Mired In Twilight and have a few tracks over at my artistserver.com pages (both DS and MIT tracks there as well as over at soundclick.com). MIT is more of a martial/dark ambient thing I am trying to resurrect yet again....

Currently have a Korg M50, Akai LPD8, padKontrol for hardware, NI Komplete 2/4/5/7/8 (upgrades), bunch of free VSTi's, that I toy around with when I am in the mood. I am trying to get back into things as it's been since I released Bathys in 2008 on Hypnos -Secret Sounds sublabel, that I put anything out (maybe a track or two since....

Huge Guild Wars 2 fan/player (since it came out) and old timer GW1 player from long ago. Anyone who plays GW2 whisper me and we can go kill stuff when not working on music or real life work!

and you can call me Mike if you like or Darkened Soul. Either works for me on a forum.

Well crap I just had to change my links since my main site other than soundclick shut down due to revenue issues (and I paid annually for past several years there (artistserver.com - Gideon ran it which was offshoot of electronicscene site or something close to that).

Hi Mike..welcome to the AO forum.

Must say your introduction was detailed and made interesting reading..thanks for that. I'm sure you'll find we are a good natured bunch of musically like-minded souls on here, with a vast spread of talent and skills, ranging from total noobs to those of us perhaps old enough to remember what we were doing when the first Korg hit the stores.

Anyway, glad to see you here and hope you find this place to the gold-mine of info and support that it really is..all you need to do is get active on here and join in..the rest will take care of itself. ;)

      Hi Dan,

Thanks for the welcome. I forgot to mention I also played synthesizer/samples in Shroud of Bereavement for 4 years (neo-classical doom/death metal band) which was interesting (gigging out/a bit of touring - fav gig was Heathen Crusade II in St. Paul/Minneapolis in '07 - had a blast meeting the bands there).

        Hey Mike,

Glad to have you with us! Listening to "Bathys" as I type this ... some extremely dark and textural material here. Love it! You'll definitely find your kindred spirits around these parts as dark ambient lives within these walls.

Great introduction and it appears you're here for the long haul which is always nice to see.

        Cheers and welcome to AO,

Bay Area! Haven't been out there in a long looooooooong time. I was stationed down at Moffett Field some time ago ;-) nice area. Kinda pricey but nice I can get to the beach in ~1 hr (where I am at depends where I go, 30 mins to 1+ hr if I head north). Thanks and hopefully I'll be somewhat active on the forum as I can. And again I am trying to get back to working on music (MIT project but should do DS stuff too....).

              Hey, welcome aboard.

Some nice deep sounds you have there.

My sister and her family are living in Mass at the moment (um.. Stow? near Boston...) They love it, bought a house that backs onto a lake, have deer tramping across the lawn in the mornings...
