Hope you didn't put a dollop of sugar in that coffee! LoL. One of my friends at work is diabetic and has to take insulin shots twice a day (or is it three times? Can't remember!) but he is also morbidly obese and sweets are his weakness. We take bets every day around lunch time what his blood sugar is going to be when he tests it- I've won about 3 of the pots so far.. LoL- no we don't bet money, we just make guesses- based on whether he 'cheated' or not and had something with sugar in it that morning. So, I'm guessing yours is Type 2 diabetes which can be managed by watching your diet. My father had that same condition. Sometimes it can be alleviated by losing weight, and then the sugar levels go back to normal on their own. Judging from photos I've seen of you, you don't look to be obese, maybe just a bit chubby (and I can say this as someone who is chubbier than you!). Anyways, I'm sure you know it's a matter of discipline and re-training yourself to amend your dietary choices. I'm not diabetic, but my doctor told me I had to change my eating habits due to the kidney stones I had, or I would keep having that problem. Since then I've cut out most of the soda I was drinking, tomato-based foods have had to be cut way down, and acidy stuff, as well as switching to filtered water, and cutting down my coffee consumption to no more than two cups a day.. Anyway, I have faith that you will keep this under control, as you are one of those people that work to achieve your goals in life- and we still want ya around, at least for a while!

    • Just finished breakfast - a great porridge from our local whole foods type store - with a small amount of maple syrup! Definitely a weakness of mine And before that did an hour Tai Chi / Qi Gong class with a few people around the corner in the park that runs along the Brisbane River . What a great start to the day . Now to do some music for an hour or two

      • Sonic Bodhi ... "at lease for a while!" buahahahha that made me smile. Over the course of the last year and a half or so I've lost 40 pounds. I'd reached a point where my being out of shape was affecting my life and making my asthma much worse. So I started getting on the treadmill for 5 minutes at a time at work. After a while I was able to gradually ramp up. About 8 months end I could use the stairs once in a while without an asthma attack. Fast forward - I use the stairs all the time.

However - about last November I started feeling ill all the time - and February and March I started reallly feeling like crap all the time. In April I starting having to go to the bathroom way to often - like - holy cow I can't wait til the end of the meeting I need to go now. I needed my blood work done anyway (I'm on thyroid meds and have high cholesterol)- and that's when the diabetes found.

Yes - Type 2... so yes - I can get it down with diet and exercise. Possibly get off the diabetes meds. We'll see. I"ve gone through 8 hours of classes and several one on one meetings with educators and dietician. Some awesome resources we have at the hospital here. Thankfully! Diabetes is a progressive disease, so it's possible in 5 or 10 or 20 years - things will change. I'm only 46 now (my birthday coming up shortly - yay!). Learned a ton about all the complications from diabetes in my last class this morning. Yeah - it's a ton. The good thing about diabetes is you have to track all the other things that can go wrong and be on top of them early! It's a funny silver lining, but I'll take it.

Below picture is from today. Yes - I'm chubby - I have stick legs and stick arms and all my extra weight is in my belly. 20 more pounds off me would be awesome.

Seriously - you made my day with your post - thank you!.

              • GregH very cool. Valparaiso is not a far drive from where I live. There's another instructor closer to where I work - but even further out. I might look into that someday.

Sonic Bodhi Hopefully your coworker enjoys the daily poll. Any way things like this can be made a little more fun is a good thing in my book. Also - start betting money. buahahahaa - kidding.

now playing: Carbon Based Lifeforms - Interloper

now drinking: coffee... no sugar, and yes, I miss having coffee with my sugar.

now eating: oatmeal with peanut butter (natural, no sugar added, yada yada yada - always have eaten this type)

Gets a couple spins a week, but that is true of all their albums. Interloper is simply a very good, if not great, album.

                    • Codehead Absolutely. One of those artists I can just hit play on their catalog and let run all day long. Solar Fields, Aes Dana, HUVA, well - the vast majority of the Ultimae label. Love that label!

CBL - World of Sleepers playing now.

Yes, Walter is in on the joke and often makes his own guesses with some ridiculously high number like '554' or '350'.. We've also discussed the fact that it must be really tough for him- because he has a 'sweet tooth' and is a diabetic... surrounded by all that candy, cake, and pie but not allowed to touch it! Well, not proscribed completely, but allowed only in tiny amounts and usually when his blood sugar is too low.. today I went to our local medical supply place to inquire about a new wheel for his walker, which he requires due to his morbid obesity, and the fact he has bad knees which he goes to have injected every three months to keep them from degrading any further. He goes everywhere with that walker, and the wear and tear of taking it on the town streets has caused one of the wheels to wear down so badly it's almost gone- so I'm going to try to help him get a wheel for it so he doesn't have to shell out $80 or $90 for a new one- or maybe Medicare will cover some of the cost of a new one. I don't know, we'll see...

That's how I try to live; if I drank it everyday then that's obviously bad but the odd can here and there... meh. In fact I drink so little (couple of cans a week maybe?) that I generally don't bother with diet types, would rather have 'wholesome, natual' sugar. My sister drinks nothing but diet pepsi (bottles a day...). I think hyper' would be an apt description...

Never heard of Mr Pibb, I guess never made it to these shores... One of my indulgences though is root beer, rarely see it in the UK (normally buried in the 'world' foods aisle). Or as my daughter likes to call it, germolene juice. I think they both contain wintergreen root or something, I did research it once, thought about home brewing some (meant to be easy...)

Edit: just realised a users location isn't showing over on the left anymore...

                              • GaryG With as much beer as I've brewed over the past four years, it's strange that I've never tried to make root beer. We did brew an 8% imperial brown ale a couple years back that had all the root beer ingredients in it called "The Night Is Young", but that's the closest I've come. It's probably easier than brewing actual beer, but I can't say for certain.

I'm tinkering with an old sound that I found in a demo folder from 10 years ago - I have no idea of its origin, but it turned out fairly interesting after running it through my favorite Audiobulb Ambient preset.
