  • I mixed and mastered "Tears in Rain" on Saturday and remixed Qattara yesterday. I used Equivocate on both of 'em. I was particularly pleased with the results. Qattara had some resonance problems which persisted through 4 previous mixes. It was good to finally put that puppy to bed.

Revisiting the "Qattara" project after 4.5 years was an eye-opener. I discovered lots or small mistakes and inconsistencies with synth parameters, mixer levels, panning and EQ settings, FX parameters and other odds and ends which have finally been taken care of. I swapped out Ferric TDS for Satin, and Braindoc Stereoizer for the Nugen version.

I'm going to master Qattara in a minute, then I'll have 2 tracks completed for a possible "ambient" album release in 2020. There is another album to come before then. Remixing for that will begin next week.

    • I've also been playing with the new beta10 of Paulstretch for the last couple of days. This has a few improvements and an inverse stretch, which can turn those 20-minute drone pieces into instant chart hits with the judicious addition of the fabled beatz.

If that weren't enough for you, it appears that a VST version is now under development although it's mode of operation may differ significantly from that of the stand-alone program.

      • I discovered today that Fender and Marshall make mini 1-watt amps! Given my tiny room, I can now own a Marshall AND a Fender Twin and still have space for a multifx!

Also reorganizing my hard drives, external ones, in prep for my inter-contract break.. need to smooth the path to ambient mayhem AGAIN. Just no keyboard controller, there is literally no room any more. Just another challenge...

        • Well, the work laptop has gone back to HQ. After a ton of measuring, checking, cable moving, and jaw-grinding it appears that I can move my main laptop to the larger work table and clear the smaller table to hold the Alesis Vortex!!! It'll take all Thanksgiving weekend but in the end I will have both a Full dual-monitor software development system and a guitar/keyboard mini-studio! I will also likely end up with pulled muscles, sore arms and a grouchy attitude for a day or two after, lol!

Hope everyone is having a good Hump Day!

              You mean like these ones?

I've had one of the little Marshall ones for seems like forever. Fun little amp, best for that crunchy rock stuff that people always play in videos.

I must admit it's biggest use to me is that you can pick it up and get cool feedback sounds, presenting the amp to the guitar rather than the other way around. Convenience!

Thanks for posting that!!! I'm going to pass on the Marshall and get the Blackstar Fly, it has some smokin' blues tones, ands I'm going to get the Fender for clean stuff because I like the tone.

                • I think the Blackstar is a league above the Marshall (and Fender?), I would certainly have got one of those instead if they'd been around at the time. The Marshall is certainly pretty light weight and plasticy.

My plan is to order the Blackstar tomorrow, play with it until next Payday, then decide on the Fender. As to the Marshall, build quality worries me and it didn't sound good until all the way up - an issue since I live in a shared house!

This will be the smallest amp I've ever owned, my last amp was a Peavey Bandit which was LOUD.

                      • Nibbling beans and sausage in mustard sauce for brekkie, sipping blueberry flan flavored coffee. My box of flavored coffee finally arrived and it's a blast, we'll see if I get pickle flavor coffee though.. laying out plans for reorganizing the computer lab and the studio, the logistics are a pain and it's going to take some hard work but be worth it in the end when I have both a guitar studio and a keyboard-based setup!!! I just plan on 2 days of aspirin and hot patches after, being old and handicapped sucks. I am sooo looking forward to a REAL vacation, it's been over a year since I had more than 4 days off.

                            • Sitting in the lobby of the auto shop/dealership where I bought my car while they change the oil and do a diagnostic on it. It's hard to believe it's been three months since I bought my car, but reflecting on what's happened in the interim (two album releases, numerous road trips), I guess it doesn't seem that long.

Here's to all the madness that happens in the upcoming three months until my next oil change!

                              • Sipping diet soda whilst downloading updates from Native Instruments. There'll be a lot of that over the next 4 days as I organize and update my virtual studio.

It's too damn sunny outside, had to close my curtain or I might catch fire or melt...
