  • Preparing to restart my novella/novel/short story writing career. It's all part of my grand scheme to switch careers and maybe finally stop programming computers for good!!!

I figure between CD sales and Kindle book sales, I should eventually be able to afford to live in a pup tent near some high-speed Internet access...

        ROFL!!!

Well, it'll pay less but it should be more rewarding, emotionally and creatively. It's just as much work.. :workingout:

Oh I don't know, some of my programs were real cliffhangers ("will it compile?", "will it link?", "will it run as expected?", "have the users even correctly spec'ed the fecking thing in the first place..."

My code was like a mystery: "Why did it crash?", "Why did it delete that user", and the famous "What in HELL is my code doing?!?!?!".

No romance or erotica, though, so as a novel it wouldn't sell. :frown:

Anyway, I've decided to spend this time learning/refreshing my electronics knowledge, cos I've had some ideas for guitar pedals to build so maybe something interesting will come out of this time.

i have been trying to get into building circuits i have always wanted to build some of my own pedals as well
I always think there's one thing that I don't understand that is the key to unlocking electronics for me. I know how resistors and capacitors, transistors and diodes all work, and a simple circuit makes sense. It's when you give me a slightly more complex practical circuit and I have no idea what's going on.

I treat code debugging like a murder mystery and I'm a detective... the list of cold cases is growing though.

My code was kind of erotic, once or twice a number of DB tables ended up well and truly [CENSORED].

I think it's just experience and having someone you can ask lots of dumb questions of.

I doubt I know much more than you; studied electronics at school (Yeah, O-Level, I'm that old... ) then just messed around with DIY guitar pedals. Any customisation was probably nearer to circuit bending, almost randomly wiring bits together. I do wish I knew a little more though just to make combining simple circuits easier. Such as taking a some simple synth/noise circuits and knowing how to efficiently wire them together without duplicating buffer stages etc.

Don't you remember how sexy and exciting Tron was?

Flashing back to remember the movie....

                              • Doc visit over and I'm thinking about how I'm going to survive another 3 weeks in a new cast.. the foot stub itself is in perfect shape, healing better than expected, but the doc is worried all the tendons he moved might not be ready for heavy work.. so I have a new cast. This one is super bright obnoxious orange, though, you can see it from space it's so bright!! They were out of light blue, dag nab it!!! Apparently the best way to protect the stupid foot is a cast, nothing else guarantees a bad thing won't happen, so.. more scooter time.

There is some possibility ber consumption will increase next Payday as I dive into my second album and start working on my first novella for the Kindle reader. Thankfully the delivery service I use delivers beer, chips, dip, and sundries so I can keep my "exposed foot time" down to a minimum.

                                Feh.
