What is different between Ambient and BGM?

Sometime i confused.
I'm sure that absolutely different between ambient and background music(BGM).
But i can't exactly explain what is different between those musics.
I've searching about those topic in some portals in my country.
But i hard to find that.
Please explain, I want to learn more about that.

If you're going to use Brian Enos description of ambient music then you should be able to ignore ambient music as much as background music (is that a genre or something?) but also dig deep into it too if you want. Maybe pure background music lacks the complexity of ambient..?
