Well, despite Life's best attempt to take me out of the game, I seem to have, through some miracle, dodged the bullet!
I was one week away from having no money, no job, no prospects, and nothing of worth left to sell. I had a Plan B, but it was extremely radical.. however it sould keep med fed, watered, and sheltered with free medical care.. just not in the best environment, shall we say.
Aaaand, out of literally nowhere, I got a phone call rom an agency I've never herd of asking if I would like to interview for a C++ programmer position in San Antonio, 9 month contract to hire, working remotely 3 weeks a month.
No shit, set me up!
Now, dig THIS!
- Friday, I phone interview with the hiring manager. We hit it off right away, she worked for startups in Silicon Valley so we swapped war stories for a while. Cool, so she wants me to do a tech interview.. Monday..
- Monday, I talk to this dude Michael from a consulting company in Denver. We spend 2 hours on the phone, only about 1/2 an hour discussing the job and my applicable skills. The sneaky bastard got me talking about my past projets and once I go off on a techie tear, shutting me up is near impossible! Great, they'll get back to me..
- Wednesday, hey, please come down to San Antonio for a face-to-face. OMFG where will I get the money? Placement agency will pay for bus tickets and landlady will loan me some cash. Whee, wash the interview clothes..
- Friday down to San Antonio, I meet the entire company (all 12 people lol), everyone likes me, I like everyone.. back to Austin I go..
- Job offer arrives while on the bus, can I start in a week? You bet your ass I can!
- Saturday, landlady loans me enough cash to survive until October 7th., my first Payday.
- September 19th.. in San Antonio.. and I'm employed!!!
Talk about insane! It's still hard to believe and I'm on my third week working. The company is clled Brain Sentinel, and they're developing a medical deice that can detect an epileptic seizure and automatically contact your doctor and/or any caregivers. The eentual goal? To catch a seizure before it starts and call help!
So, now I'm in the eniable position of being employed with a job that may go perm, but in the unenviable position of having sold off/donated/tossed out 99% of what I own. Talk about starting over! Geebus, what a roller-coaster ride...
I'm slowly reconstructing my studio. There is a chance that I'm going to give guitar one last chance, as I've been speaking with a diabetic friend who plays and he says that if I can do mostly tapping, I should be able to adapt and start recording. Until then, I'll be doing a lot of ambient/experimental loop-mangling, so in a few weeks expect some more goodies from Synthetic Aurality!
I'm starting to think it's time to consider settling down, lawzy, I'm getting too old for this kind of nightmare...
