  • If you had 100€...

    Hi everybody!

I'm going to visit Amsterdam soon to visit family and stuff, and even though my personal economy isn't great atm, I'm counting on spending like a 100€ on something related to music there

Which led me to the question, what could one buy for a 100€? Second hand toy synths? A volca bass/beats/keys?

I just want to ask y'all then, if you ONLY had 100€, and wanted to increase your sonic arsenal, what would you buy?

If I had 100E to spend in Amsterdam....:daydream:

Not sure it'd be on gear.

But to actually answer the question, I'd try and put it toward a new interface with at least 4in/4out.

Hahaha, you would probably be in good company!

I've looked around for different vintage oriented music shops, I'll just see if I'll find anything there

That's why he is Phoenstorm and I am just aoVI.

            Great and creative idea.

And upon further thinking...I prefer effects. It honesty matters little the synth I use as I do so much processing. Maybe look for some effect that hasn't be emulated or otherwise reproduced in the digital domain.

Oo, that's great ideas! I actually made my first two field recordings this morning. I only had my phone though, but it seems to work out quite well! Both great tips, thanks!

So, I thought I'd do a follow up.

Amsterdam is a great city, and I had a lovely time. I recommend everybody to go there. People only know it bc hookers and drugs, but there is really a lot more to it

I found a store filled with vintage stuff, called De Plug. There I found a distortion pedal, the boss HM-2. For those of you who don't know it, it's very popular among Swedish death metallers, but also shoegaze-guitarist. For 70€ it's considered a score

The real happening (gear-wise at least) was in a reaaally small city close to my grandparents. We're talking small as in "there is literally only one street"-small. There, I found a music store which I'd never seen before and I walked in to check it out.

The two store owners were sitting in the store and actually smoking weed (they mustn't have had a customer in years) and we're very friendly. I saw a few older guitars which were cool but nothing special. However, when I checked the 1 square meter keyboard section, there was a freaking Casio SK-5!!! I've been looking for those since forever back in Sweden, and there one was, for 40€. I already love it, and made a short drone-y track with it.

SO glad you found something worthwhile!

My ol' SK-5 is in storage...I should dig it out sometime.

                  Merry Christmas!
