  • Loopers - Mobius or AmbiLoop?

I want to do a track of Frippertronics-style guitar, and I've got it into my head that I'd like to use a looper to do it. (I know there are other ways, but I've always fancied trying out a looper anyway). I downloaded Mobius last night, got it set up inside Reaper in a very rudimentary fashion, and got some pretty interesting results for a first effort. Anyway, I've now discovered there's AmbiLoop as well. Obviously I'll do some digging myself, but if any of you guys have used either Mobius or Ambiloop (or both, or something else) what are your thoughts re: user-friendliness, quality of results, support (they're both free), user community/forums etc. I'd rather plump for one or the other because I'm itching to record something while the inspiration strikes...:D

I haven't used any loopers in a serious way, although I have had a quick play with Mobius.

I did make the following track with Elottronix XL which attempts to emulate Fripp's tape delay setup.

You might want to watch the stereo panning on Elottronix. It can make you dizzy :giggle:

I converted tronix1 to mono, after my brain emigrated.

Nice piece of music there Tim I tried out Elottronix a few years ago, but couldn't get on with it. I've been reading the Mobius manual (or rather, some of it - it's very extensive) during lunch break and it's inspired me to persist - there's all kinds of cool stuff you can do with it and a MIDI controller. One recommended controller is the Behringer FCB1010, one of which I have but hardly ever use. And like most Yorkshiremen, I hate waste :steam:so that's just another incentive. And it would be nice to be able to record more performance-based tracks to offset the generative stuff I've been experimenting with lately.

When I played with some loops a while back, I ended up using Ambiloop mainly because it just worked for me straight out of the box so to speak. Pretty intuitive.

        Whereas Mobius...
Latest release: never to be repeated

 I hear you...on the other hand I did get results (after a bit of research) which were interesting enough to make me want to explore further. Hmmm, I dunno, I dunno...
          Thanks for the info GaryG
