  • Ableton Live 8 Suite Question

Greetings all, I'm thinking about making the leap into live. I was watching a second hand full boxed copy on ebay buy it now for 99.00 The seller says that its still registered under the previous owner and serial is non valid ?

Can I still use the software ? or can I contact ableton and buy a new serial so I can use it ?

Has anyone had a issue like this ?

I have contacted ableton support but they have not responded yet ?

    Thanks

You will need a serial number. I'm guessing they're selling off the discs themselves, which iirc for Live 8 it had more content than you could get via the download edition.

    Don't waste your $99.
    Meh.

Kris is right, don't waste your $99 on some discs.

I was like you about 7/8 months ago. Wanting to jump into Live but wondering what the first step might be. The easiest way would be to find something inexpensive like a Launchpad or Launch Control...something that COMES with Live 9 Lite included as either a download or a disc. That way you get something for your $99 and you still get a free copy of Live Lite as part of the deal.

Either that or go for Standard...it's worth it!

Let us know what you decide.

      Cheers,

Live Lite also gives you a $100 discount when you upgrade iirc. A Launchpad Mini basically pays for itself.
        Meh.

I bought Live Intro to test the waters and it's pretty powerful. Obviously missing a lot of features/limited track count etc (there's a comparison chart on the Ableton site) but more than enough to establish whether the workflow is for you. I think it's ~$69, often pops up on KVR.
Latest release: never to be repeated

This. Getting (or already owning) some kit which inclundes Live Lite is the cheapest way to get a full version of Live if you want it right now (disregarding private sales aka ebay. Be extra careful when doing this.)

Probably the only cheaper way is to wait until a new version of Live is about to be released. In the past they gave discounts on the current version, including a free update to the next version.

What you should keep in mind is that they will charge you for updating major versions. But even these are subject to discounts from time to time, if you are patient.

Regarding the differences between Standard and Suite: I use the additional content of Suite rather sparingly. Don't care much about the samples. The additional instruments are nice and see some use sometimes. BUT! Suite includes Max4Live, and this is the one thing that makes Suite totally worthwhile for me. That said, you can get M4L separately, if you do not care about the rest Suite has to offer. Depending on the offer though, the difference in $ to getting Suite may just be in that "ah, what the heck" range. It was for me. (Yes, they got me, because in the long run it will be more expensive to update. =)

Just FYI, Suite 8 does not include Max4Live, only version 9. Just so there's no confusion later.
              Meh.
