Audiobulb Ambient not working anymore : (

Hey all,

I know Audiobulb Ambient has been mentioned in the forum before, but I am wondering if anyone still using it has had any problems with it? I used it for a while and it was great! All of the sudden, it just doesn't work anymore. I am not sure if it was a software update that did it, but I can't get it to work on my iMac or my laptop.

By the way, looking forward to the new release by Ambient creator, Christopher Hipgrave!

It's my #1 piece of software, next to Audacity. To me it's an instrument, a very elegant and unexpectedly flexible piece of software. Still working perfectly, thank goodness.

Have you tried uninstalling & reinstalling it? It may have become corrupted somehow.

Hello,

Try to locate presets.json file inside of Audiobulb Ambient directory
and move it somewhere else. Then start application.

Thanks for the suggestions MetaDronos and Tuonela. I was filled with hope when I read about the presets.json file, but unfortunately it didn't work. I tested other max patches I have, and they all work just fine. Just Ambient that is giving me problems. The latest version I have is v0.3. Is that the most current?

You were right Tuonela. I got in touch with David over at Audiobulb and he sent me a new copy and it is working!!! So glad to have this wonderful tool back into my arsenal.

Interesting thing, the copy I had was a Max patch. The one I just got is a standalone app. Anyways, thanks for the help, guys. It is appreciated.

Excellent! Yeah, I bought the standalone at the audiobulb site a few years ago. It's a bit fiddly to use, a shame it doesn't fill the screen and needs a mouse (on my PC anyway), but a truly amazing piece of software with an incredible range of effects

Enhancements in 4.1 include improved GUI:
▪ Hover over dials causes dial name to appear and also value to show
▪ File name shows in bottom left when file is selected
▪ Dial colour changes to black and white when mapped to a midi controller, goes back to normal when mapping is removed.

I have a very old version of Ambient (version 0.3). Is there a mechanism to update wiithout having to buy it again?

We had to do a lot of work to upgrade at significant cost - so it does need to be brought again.
