  • Arpeggiators

Has anyone used 7Aliens Catanya? It's an arpaggiator.

I'm considering purchasing it when I have the money, but I'm not sure if it will be worth it. It's not too expensive, though, so it may be worth trying.

You could try some of the others first to see how an arp fits your workflow.

    Timecore is a bit Catanya-like for $30:

My fave, Kirnu (v1 free I think):
Latest release: never to be repeated

Haven't tried any of these suggested arperggiators, but I recently aquired Xfer Records' Cthulhu, which is also quite a cheap arp./chord plug-in, has some nice features and has been getting quite a lot of use from me.

Catanya is great but it hasn't been updated for ages. The creator promised a 64-bit version over a year ago but it never happened.

I don't advice you to buy it since it's a dead product. Go with Cthulhu.

Thanks. I'll check out the various suggestions and see what fits the best with my workflow.

I saw that Catanya was only 32-bit, but I didn't know there were so many other options out there.

Looks like Cream is done...but like Gary suggested, you can still get Kirnu 1 for free! Cream looks amazing. Surprised nobody suggested it! :D

I couldn't find a download link for Cream on the Arto Vaarala website. I have had Kirnu 1 for some time, it works well.

Maybe it isn't for sale yet?

There is a pre-order link on the Cream web page now:

I know, the pre-order link came up later that afternoon after I had posted.

I will probably check out Kirnu 1 this weekend, then I'll maybe get Cream after that.

7Aliens Catanya should be available in 64-bit now, as far as I have gathered, it's not a free upgrade. Personally, I have decided to split arp-duties between live's inbuilt arp & Kirnu Cream. The latter is pretty nifty & I'm just starting to explore. I've seen a few round here rely on Cream - what's your take, what do you use it for?

Not a true arpeggiator, but Nova3 might be worth a look if you are into arp-like patterns. (It's a freebie too!) It is a generative sequencer. It was inspired by Otomata, has additional controls to introduce randomness and probability in the pattern, and was designed to operate set-and-forget or interactively. The GUI is not much by today's standards but if you can get past that there can be much enjoyment to be had (If I do say so myself).

The videos are slow at the start, move in a few minutes to get a better sense of the capabilities.
                            Enjoy!

If you have Reaktor, I think it has some great off the wall arpeggiators in the UL
