I have been really digging into Csoundforlive, and I am really amazed at the power behind this. So far I have been mostly just testing the precreated instruments, as the actual programming stuff looks pretty complex. I want to buy a book on how to program this stuff, as it really seems perfect for creating all sorts of ambient drones!
Best thing about the Csound language is it is FREE! I mean you get a tool like reaktor but for free, how cool is that? I like the idea behind CSOUNDforlive, because it lets you control csound .CSD files with your ableton midi. Csoundforlive has a free package to help introduce you to the idea behind it's integration with Ableton live. The more complex stuff is sold, but at super low prices..
It definitely might be capable of producing super analog sounds, but it can still produce very powerful synthesized sounds! The granular synthesis algorithms in it could be better, at least from what i've heard so far. I think something like Crusher-X or Reaktor do a way better job for granular.
However for what it's worth, how could you not pick this great package up? Especially if you bought the Maxforlive package!
Let me know if you need help setting it up.
Definitely tons of stuff out there!
If you are an ableton live user, I can help you set up how to use CSoundforlive. It is actually quite painless! You will need the Maxforlive extension however.
I am not affiliated with csoundforlive, I just think it is an amazing resource.
