  • Arturia V5 released

Looks like Arturia has released the V5 Collection and added 5 synths.

Intro price is $399, going up to $499 June 30th.

As an owner of V4 (and I do find the collection useful) the special upgrade offer of $199 is steeper than I am willing to go.

I may have been a candidate for purchasing at 99, and 149 wouldn't have been completely out of the question.--I know it's only $40 per new synth, but I have seen Arturia do $49 sales way too often to bite. Synths individually aren't a huge deal to me as I do tons of processing, and the new ones aren't anything that aren't covered elsewhere.

If past actions from Arturia are any predictor of future ones, I bet the upgrade price drops at least to $129 during Black Friday/Cyber Monday. If nothing else hits my wish list by then, I may consider it at that price. I can wait.

EDIT: looks like plugindiscounts has it for 168--though that still isn't attractive for me.

Yeah. I was very disappointed to discover than they wanted 100 bucks just for the updates to the V 4 synths. I'd been looking forward to the updates for months and months and months. That really saddened me today.
The only one of the new "synths" I'm interested in is the Synclavier. I've no need for any more pianos or organs. And at 200 bucks JUST for the Synclavier (apparently previous customers don't get a discount on individual synths) that is WELL outside of my music budget. By far. Even 100 dollars to update the synths I have is a lot of money to me.
    <sigh> oh well
I gotta remember tho, that the 100 dollar update boils down to just under 10 bucks per synth, which I guess really isn't all that bad.
I'll probably pull the trigger on that one (before the offer expires) ... but I'll wait to see if Arturia backtracks and just gives V4 owners the updates. I really hope they do.

I'm going to sit this one out too. I would like the Synclavier, but I just bought a new boiler for the heating system, which was commissioned today, so money is a little tight now.

In other news, I am proudly sporting my undies in the sweltering heat of my lounge.

        WTF!! >:(
I just learned that they have removed the fricken AWESOME Sound Map. Nada. Gone. Zippo. Cancelled. Deleted.
What a dick move on Arturia's part. I use that ALL the fricken time. It is GREAT for coming up with starting points for new presets.

        Strike two, Arturia :\

My next question (which I've asked in a couple places) is: Are presets from V4 synths compatible and easily transferrable to the V5 synths?
If not, that's strike three for me.

Most of the Synclavier V is just FM, no?

Like previously posted, they seem to be good quality, but the new ones would be slightly redundant in my collection. Some of Farfisa sounded sweet to me, but didn't hear anything I couldn't pull from some other synth with a little work.

I don't have any problem with the size of the V4 GUIs, and love the Soundmap feature. I was disappointed when the newer synths in V4 did not continue the tradition--but to have removed them from the classic ones in V5 does suck. I too wish to know if V4 synths will still be accessible once you install V5 and how compatible previous presets might be. I have a huge collection of presets I made for some of my heavily used Arturias. If V4 disappears and presets are not compatible, there's next to no chance I would ever want to upgrade.

You can update synths individually for $9.99 if there are only a couple that cause eye strain.

Arturia will do a sale, maybe even as soon as late this summer...but certainly come Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I held out on upgrading V2 to 3, and 3 to 4 until sales hit--think I paid 99 for v3 to v4. They got me on the front end though; the first VST purchase I ever made was paying full retail price for V2 along with an Analog Lab 49 from Sweetwater. I soon learned to wait and where to shop.

Might go a Synclavier during a sale but Linplug Octopus does additive FM quite well enough for me at the moment. I did pay the 10usd to upgrade my Modular V to something I might use now due to the more flexible window sizing.

Well .... there we have it.
V Collection 4 presets are not, NOT, compatible with V5 instruments.
They say they are developing a converter, to be released within the next few months -- so who knows when that'll be.
That should have been out WITH the new V5 instruments, considering presets are not compatible.
                Strike 3 Arturia. :(
VERY uncool. Lame. Ridiculous even. How could they NOT make that a priority? WTF >:( :\

While it's a speed bump to getting V5 for me, I am glad they addressed the issue of almost every Arturia synth seemingly having a different browser system--overall I would call it an improvement.

I do agree, the converter should have been ready-to-roll with the release. Anything that can be done to remove people's hesitation for hopping on an upgrade, and they knew backward preset compatibility would be an issue. It'd be almost funny if they ended up charging for the converter--KVR would howl.

I am also pleased since the some sound engines have been tweaked, the old versions of the synths will remain in place so old/current projects aren't broken.

I will probably get this upgrade during a sale if it goes as low as $99-$129 since V4 would remain accessible; in a way its almost like a whole new collection of synths. For me there isn't $199 worth of value in V5 since I had no issues with V4. Others may need the sound engine tweaks, new GUIs, and new synths.

I too was disappointed in the update pricing but as I never had the complete V4 I kind of expected it. I do have 6 of the synths though and at 9.99 each I will be updating. I downloaded the Modular V and Jupiter V versions and the adjustable size makes a huge difference. They did change some of the layout on the Modular...sequencer row is now above the keyboard. I do like the new preset browser. Its a shame about the patch import issue but at least the new versions co-exist with the old so you could rebuild patches if you need too.

                      RE: Preset from prior versions.
They have a preset converter, and are "polishing it up" for public release. Time frame unknown, but it has been said "ASAP" ... whatever that means for Arturia ;)

I like the Arturia synths I own, seven in total, so I've just updated all of those.

Cost me £56 in total, so not too painful I guess...

I might have a look at upgrading mine. Am I right in assuming that the V5 plugins will co-exist alongside the earlier versions.
