Creating an interesting and rich sounding track out of a spare sound source

Yesterday I was working on a track based on a given sound source of about 10 minutes length that had a lot of silence in it.

I processed this track through several different effect settings and recorded/bounced the results each to a new track.

Then I shifted this newly recordings on the timeline in my DAW to fill out the silence in the source track and ended up with a picture like this:

The result was a rich sounding track where every effect came out clear.
